MidwayUSA raises prices!

Wow!

I just checked my wish list at MidwayUSA and the prices have really gone up! Even with my dealer discount, I am now paying more than I think it would have cost without the discount a couple of weeks ago. This is not just on components.

I started using using Graff & Sons when midway started charging for shipping. They are comperable in price and only charge a $3 handling fee, no shipping. I will have to see if their prices went up.

All the ammunition companies announced in Novemeber that there would be about a 15% increase in prices after the first of the year, due to the crazy increases in raw commodities prices. Copper and lead have shot through the roof, due to India and China sucking the world dry, trying to electrify their countries and making batteries for the rest of the world.

This isn't the end of the increases, since metals prices are still going up, and fuel is staying high.

Actually, Fred, that doesn't help at all... :banghead:


I bought a bunch of lead bullets from Midway on 12/28 and checked prices on 1/2. They'd all gone up 15-20%. That said, Midway's customer service is still top-notch. I suspect they held off as long as they could.

Actually, the ammunition companies have held off, too. Their costs for raw materials have gone up about 60% in the last year and a half, but they've held off on price increases on their products until towards the end of 2006. I subscribe to a couple of industry magazines, from when I was a dealer, and it's not a pretty picture as far as prices go, especially for the future. As long as the raw material prices keep going up, the companies have no choice but to raise prices, if they want to stay in business.

ReloaderFred has it right about materials. Midway generally raises prices in January anyway on top of that.

Oil is still above 53$ currently. Lead and copper are both up. Energy is more expensive.

Raw Materials

My neighborhood dealer has been telling me about this for about a year now, and I guess it's finally starting to trickle down. In addition to the price increases, he has recently been having trouble finding some brands and calibers of ammunition in stock from his suppliers .

An interesting side note to this, my wife's work involves pricing some metals for raw materials and instrument components. Over dinner the other night, she commented to me that BRASS now costs more than stainless steel. I don't know the exact compositions she was referring to, but that seems a bad omen regardless. The industry consensus is that a lot of this, (raw material price issues, ) is due to the industrial revolutions in Asia .

It's not Midway's fault as far as pricing goes. The manufacturers raised prices. Have you seen the cost of Sierra Bullets? Insane increases.

As far as Graf's, they have exactly the same prices as Midway. And for dealers, Graf's charges shipping and if you pay with a card, they charge 3% (since dealer prices reflect the cash discount).

Last year I purchased some sierra .308 HPBT MK 168gr bullets a box of 500.

It was $58.00 for the 500 pack on sale at midway usa. I just looked them up and they are now $119 for the same 500. Primers are up from $17 a box to $22 around here.

reloading is getting more expensive.

Not only are prices higher, availability is another issue. I checked several online suppliers last night and found several were out of Federal primers, which is my 1st choice for pistols. Not a good omen at all. But what is worse, have you seen prices of factory ammo? WOW!

Noticed that in December.... Had both the December flyer and the new January flier..... Saw the prices increased on the Bullets.... Both a bunch of Rainier bullets.... They were on sale plus saved on the price increases. Made a big end of the year order....

I saved 20.00 at least buying 1000 raniers for my 45 in december, I bought 2 500ct boxes for less than they had a 1000ct listed for like 10.00 less. about 63.00 i think for both now its like 81.00 for 100.

Recently at a larger sporting good store primers were 2.95/100 and no 1000 price.

Shot to our club will be $24.50 next week. July it was $18.00
