"minute of bad guy myth"

I honestly don't buy that a civilian would need to be able to shoot at 400-600 yards in a SHTF scenerio. I suppose it is possible, but I honestly don't think it is likely. Of course, SHTF is pretty unlikely to begin with.

I have shown a photograph on this forum, and on others, of a 3 shot group that I shot at 80 yards with my CETME. The group measures well under once inch, actually, under 3/4". And I have repeated this a few times.

Unfortunatly, I can't repeat this every time, not because of the rifle, but because of myself.

But my philosophy is that an accurate rifle will give me a better chance of hitting where I am aiming at. Pretty simple huh?

Sure, with iron sights, adrenaline flowing, poor shooting form, and a moving target at an unknown range, that sub-MOA rifle aint going to be sub-MOA. But I will be able to score hits better than if it was a 3-4 MOA rifle.

I.G.B.

I just thought of another point on the M1 Garand in particular- the Army's criteria included that each M1 should do 4MOA or better to be accepted. Now, that said, most I hear about will do better than half that provided the barrel's not shot out.

RevDisk:

Shooting from the standing? Ha. Try shooting after someone really attractive wiggled on top of you for a minute, after eight months of a deployment, and then let's see your shot groups!

After eight months in training almost any girl would probably look attractive. :D

Sounds like you just cooked your noodle a little and can go Dali Lama whenever you want. Well at least you don't have to wait for your deathbed to achieve total consciousness, so you got that going for you.

Deployment, not training. And yes, after that amount of time one's standard of beauty is... different.

Sometimes, I can zone out and shoot incredibly well. Not sure why or how, I just do. Hmm... Need more range time.

The minute of bad guy is not a myth, but a different way of saying combat accurate, or I can make hits within the size of a saucer plate at the range, so after sprinting through the woods I might be able to hit a pie plate.

One of my goals this year is to make myself a better rifleman. It doesnt matter if Im using a service rifle capable of 2-4 MOA, or a super accuracte rifle capable of sub moa. If I cant make hits with either one, after fleeing through the woods from blue helmets:rolleyes: , or hiking to the top of a large hill to gain a better shot at game, what does it matter what the rifle is capable of. I think being in good shape so your body is capable of making the shot, and practicing from non benchrest positions with a rifle you are comfortable with, and that has proved to be reliable is what matters. If that rifle is a ak or a Ar, a new remington 700 or a 100 year old mosin I dont think it matters. You do not need a super duper bench rifle like shown in the picture, but you do need a rifle. Im not a rifleman yet, but even I know its the shooter not the tool. :D
