I have a first year production model 1887 in a 12 gage, that I used in Cowboy Action for several years, and only shot those Winchester low noise-low recoil rounds. They are very light 26 gram load, the velocity listed is about 975 fps, and I shot hundreds of rounds through it with no ill effects. You may have to figure out a similer load for your 10 gage. Today I still have that 87',and wouldn't be affraid to shoot it, but sence other manufacturers have made reproductions of this gun, I have gone to shooting one of them. Be aware that some 1887's had damascas barrels (on special order) and if that were the case, then I would not shoot it, period! If you have a steel barrel, make sure its not heavily pitted, if so I'd say no, but light pitting (like mine) shouldn't be a problem. Another thing is the chamber, and in those days the cartridges were shorter, so you my have to have the chamber reamed to the proper depth, like I did. Best advice I can offer, is to have it checked over by a good smith, and let them have the finial say. LM
