Sooo, I picked up a sweet S&W Model 19-7 yesterday @ my local gun show.
I traded a bottom feeder for it, barely a turn line on the cylinder, lock up is tight, 6" barrel rubber grips,
and the original S&W box it left the factory in!! I am such a lucky guy!

Good score! I picked up a 19-7 myself not too long ago, great gun.

The only thing better than a low value gun to trade for a 19 is an Ex

211 views and only 1 comment, I thought the model 19 collectors would be proud of my acquisition. Oh well ! I put together some 125 grn 38 spl @1000 fps and some 158 swc'c @850 fps and will shoot it this weekend. Then I will load up some magnum loads. Still waiting for parts for the Pro 1000 to be up & running.

I'm not a model 19 collector. But that one could turn me into one. Nice acquisition. I like the Uncle Mike's grips. Too bad they don't make them anymore.

Being that it's the 4th of July I suspect that a lot of those that would offer observations and comments, are outside shooting instead.

I'll put it this way... You could have done much worse... :D

I want to play.

I have traded, lost, and abused three M 19s. I still have the 'knockabout' 19 that has a baad almost sinful finish and end shake. It still works.

The M13 3" HB/RB whistled a better tune. If I were going to carry a .357, it'd be the M13. I liked the 13 well enough to, over time, get one for each of my wayward kiddos.

A K-frame in a handy size is good stuff.

Great gun, I like the Butler Creek/Uncle Mike grips. I wish I had never sold my 66, but I made up for it with my Security Six collection. IMO the k-frame size is the only way to go. Enjoy your new weapon, and let us know how she shoots.

Tahoe, you're only lucky if you plan to enjoy it over the next few years with many rounds passed through the pipe... :D

She's a looker, no doubt about it. Now load 'er up and let her do what she does best. Namely shoot so well that one would think that the bullets are laser guided.

My own 19-3 will be one of the last to pass from my hands when I'm no longer able to shoot due to old age and bad eyes. They are superb firearms. For my tastes S&W got it all just right with the K frames. The other options are simply atheletes on steroids.... :D

I shot the 19 today , not very pleased so far. I wanted to start out with low power loads(.38 spl) and get a feel for the gun.
Some pipsqueak loads as it turned out. You could here the bullet hit the target.
So I'm going to step it up to some high end 38's and some 357 mag loads, and see what she will do.
POA is six o'clock bullseye in the center dot at 25 yards off hand. Virtually no recoil with these loads.

Ceertainly non-typical for any Model 19 I ever shot.

I'd suggast neither high end .38 loads or .357 Mag to test.

Just some standard .38 148 grain wadcutter or 158 grain lead should put them all in the center bull at 25 yards.

My 6" 19 and my 4" 66 will both do better then that at 100 yards with 140 grain Sierra JHP and 14.5 grains 2400 off a bench.

In my experience, K-frames like 158 grain best, and magnum rated K-frames like magnum 158 grain best.

Were you shooting it single action or double action? It may be that you are not used to the action yet, or maybe you need better ammo.

I recently sold a nice model 19 (target hammer and stocks, P&R). I picked it up some years ago because 19's are so talked about but I never really cared for it and it was a safe queen. Maybe I would have liked it better if it has a slimmer grip instead of the fat target stocks. But I have a 686 with a really smooth action and the 19 didn't measure up to the 686 for me.

Good luck with your new gun.

One of my favorites is a 19-3 with 2 3/4 barrel that I've owned for many many years, it's a always handy.

Seven High

I traded a HK/USP compact in 40 s&w.
Ken451, shooting single action, and yes, the loads were very light that I hand-loaded myself,
as stated above I could hear the bullets hit the target board @ 25 yards. I need to get some 158 swc's and load up some heavier loads.
As far as the action goes I have an "N" frame model 57 in .41 mag and I have been shooting over 40 years and reloading for more than 20,
I just missed the boat on this one! so I will regroup and go again.

Years ago I traded for a 686 that had a set of Bill Jordan signature grips. When I got my Model 19 I didn't like the fat grips on it. I put the Bill Jordan grips on it and was instantly able to shoot more accurately. Maybe a new set of grips would help. Good luck and keep us posted.
