Moisin or AK?

Hi all,
With BO as our new prez i've decided its time for something more badass than a .22. My budget has ruled out an AR for now (unless i can get one cheap) so i figured an import would be better. Either a moisin (m44 or 91/30 i havent decided yet) or an AK. The moisin would be better cause they're cheap as dirt but an AK would probably pay off in the long run (x39 is much cheaper around here than x54). However, if a moisin is accurate enough to take it hunting then i'd probably opt for that. Also i'd consider a saiga but i have literally no experience with AK's.

Any opinions? Thanks!

Why not WASR10 and a M91/30? the M91/30 doesn't impact the wallet that hard.

I fear the AK's are going bye-bye. :banghead:

I voted for the Mosin 91/30, because I have one. It's a hoot to shoot, and surplus ammo is cheap from AIM, J&G, and other online places. Plenty accurate enough for hunting deer or water jugs.

I have a M44 and Mauser, so I voted M44. I spent less than $125 for both and either one is a heavy hitter, and will get the job done. I would like to pick up a WASR-10 though.

The Mosins will be around and affordable for a long time to come, but they are arguably a better hunting gun. AK's will probably skyrocket in price as soon as the new legislative session really gets into gear, so I'd get one now. Saiga's are by far the best bang for your buck IMO.

I really like the Finnish MN's, but they aren't cheap.

Get a Mosin AND a semi auto. Mosins are cheaper than a set of mags...

Mosin M44

You can't beat the price/fun/utility of a Mosin. I voted the M44 because I have one, and it it great, great fun. Get some surplus ammo and go to town.

Remember with the Russian Mosins: They were zeroed WITH the bayonet on/extended. 200 yards. Should help with sighting in.

Oh cool ive never shot a gun with a bayonet extended before. How does that affect the zero?

if your just buying a rifle due to the election results then the ak is probably the way to go. but neither one is really a great choice for a hunting rifle.

i have a m44 a sks a sagia and a daewoo dr200 so i chose the mosin but a ak is on my buy list before i can't

WASR10 and a M91/30!
Both are decent and wont break the bank!

I enjoy them both and have had no problems with either!

Mosin Nagant rifles are plentiful and cheap.
Quality AKs are not that plentiful and not that cheap.

I would get the AK now and pick up a Mosin later.

Mosin's are great rifles for the money. Nothing that large of a round is as cheap to shoot.

ds92- I see from your location that you live in CT. AK's are banned here in CT. We are allowed to have Saigas in .223, and .308, as well as the Saiga shotguns, but the saiga in x39 is also banned.

The other thing you can do to get close to an AK is to buy a Norinco SKS-M or SKS-D.
It's an SKS that was designed from the start to accept standard AK magazines. I got one about 3 weeks ago. I anticipated that BHO would win, and in honor of him rolleyes, I purchased it.

I voted for a Mosin (91/30) but you can easily get both. The Mosin is going to be cheap enough that you should still have enough cash for an AK.

the Finn M39 is the most accurate and hardest hitting of the selections you've listed.
I have 2 and they're just a bit behind my K31's for accuracy and built like a tank.
