Wild Bill used and trusted his cap and ball Colts daily , even after the advent of cartridged guns buy
the way .

Yeah, well, Bill also died in 1876, only a few years into the cartridge revolver era. I suspect that if he'd lived another ten years, he'd have made the change too.

that would get him many dates , with someone as special as him , hee hee hee :D
Yes , my eye balls are bleeding now , stop Jaeger stop ! :banghead: :uhoh:
I know the drill of silk Ratdogfaceboy68 . Joe Namith swore by them , got lots of dates too . :D

LOL Indeed... Seattle does have it's "hazards" swishing about.

Come on up for a visit... I'll introduce you to the local color as my good friend Richard Whiskey... (but his friends call him Dick Liquor). You'll gain instant popularity. :neener:

What is cold? And I'm not convinced I want any if that is the cure. Rimshot now please. :D
"Cold" ain't +32F and slushy. I boarded a plane in Sitka, AK with that being the weather scenario... and flew back to Kotzebue, AK to testify in a court case in '85. When I stepped off the plane in Kotz... the sun was shining... not a cloud in the sky, the air was so still you could almost hear the silence... and it was -70F. That night... the wind howled in off of Siberia on top of the severe cold.

At -60F, you can pour a freshly brewed cup of coffee and toss the liquid into the air and hear it crystalize before it hits the deck as ice.

At -50F, metal begins to become brittle, and when you park your vehicle, the tires freeze into that "flattened spot" and ride really bumpy until they warm up enough to thaw and resume their round shape.

When you've spent 14 winters in those types of conditions... you gain an understanding of keeping warm... even if/when it involves wearing a suit/tie. :neener:

My nose hairs freeze just thinking about those numbers!

Under such circumstances, I can understand the reason for the novel solution to the problem you encountered. Doesn't mean the image in my brain is any better though. No, not all all. Heh.

Well... the notion of 'em with the proverbial man-skirt might make me shudder. :what: :D

I doubt it , but we'll never know

Whats the cartridge revovler era anyway ? :D I thought I heard of it once , but am sure it was passing phase , like gas . :D It will never catch on anyway . :D
I guess us folks that shoot cap and ball now 133 years after the Model "P" cartridge revolvers debut are going to switch over to cartridge any day now too ? Maybe not huh ? Wild Bill may very well have been allot like us , or me .

@Das Jaeger - It's not about debate, LOL! It's about finding out the truth before you plunk down the $$$. Also yes, about quality control.

As for the space shuttle, well I spent 11 years at GESP (Gov't Engines and Space Propulsion) at Pratt & Whitney, Florida. No beheading for you, but certainly people died in that one and it *was* both design and human decision flaws.

So again, it ain't about debate. It's about anti-BS. Living up to the ideals we set, not just talking them and then doing something different and taking an excuse, LOL!

@Ratdog68 - I'm just curious whether the repros of today are as good as the orignals they claim to replicate or not. Some folks say yes, some say no. I really don't know. If I were sure they were just up to Colt standards of the 1800's that'd be fine. A repro is, as you say, a repro. However in the case of Uberti, they openly claim theirs are *better*. (Their words, not mine.)

@BHP_Fan - Been my experience you often get what you pay for and *less*. (There's these things called profit... and "advertising", LOL!) Especially in the world of musical equipment. Lots of "tone mojo" BS in the marketing of that stuff.

To all - In any event, the errors in construction that Pettifogger was highlighting (mistimed... peening bolt stop slots) are simply unacceptable in any device that proposes to utilize deadly force,new-in-box, at any price.

If you disagree with that, well I can't change your mind. But it seems a rationale expectation given what guns are supposed to do.

Most of my life I've felt gun manufacturers generally (some exceptions, no doubt) were on board with the idea that a gun should outlast it's owner. One of the few devices I've felt quality was a top priority. I'm surprised at the willingness of folks to not fly the flag for that concept.

Ah well, guess I read too many of those old gunsmithing and handloading books as a kid.

anyone notice

that were all just Members now , not a senior member anymore .
My member is feelin younger than that anyway .
I sure like the Pedersoli Rogers and SPencer they make, tis ungodly expensive, but has the Walther Barrel , matt blued with pollsihed indexing ring on cylinder , and supposed to be world class accurate . I don't doubt it either since it has won Medals . The Patent 58 Remington is the same they make too , same stats , I realy want both of them , bad . :D
I jsut watched the DVD Pedersoli sent me, In Italian no less, good thing I am a brainiac and can understand it . I was impressed with the video, very thorough and indepth . They sure do a nice job there ,e specially for the money you spend on them , and they obviously take great pride in ther work. Most of them do that is , am sure some could give a rats silk pajama anyway .

THR.org underwent some software changes a week or so ago. I'm guessing that the previous vBulletin customizations are a thing of the past. Makes no difference to me either way, the important thing is the site still works. Even if not quite as well as it did before.

Nah didn't notice the member thing.

Oh BTW, as for "working for me". Nah not too bad, I understand that development is an iterative process. Production, on the other hand is about the samething handloading is about. Consistency, and consistently hitting a spec. Ideally, over time that gets honed in. With CNC machinery these days, I have some surprisingly affordable guitars that are literally dimensionally perfect. Better than hand made in most cases. (To the chagrin of the hand made proponents.) Materials though, are where the cost cutting ends up happening there. (And labor, of course.)

Anyway, I'm quite sure that if CNC is properly applied to the old designs, the ratio of good to rejected units should be exceptional.

But yeah, like you point out above, if the operators don't give a rat's pajamas, or more correctly the final inspector... ain't nothin' to stop junk from being delivered.

The QA guys at one place I worked used to apologize if they found a potential flaw in my stuff. I used to tell them... "Be sure to *always* beat the tar out of my work... the QA department is the last defense against the customer getting crap."

So I agree in principle. Good quality ultimately depends on craftsmen dedicated to the ideal.

"Member"... hmmm... it's probably some conspiracy to keep us all suppressed and far below the "rank" (pun intended) of the swine rootin' 'round the trough in D.C. :D
