Mosin Nagat

The M-44 can be a bit uhmmmmm "stout" on the recoil if it has the original stock with steel butt-plate.

However, a <$15 Butler Creek slip-on recoil pad helps A LOT.

Next thing to indestructible (clean it right away if you shoot milsurp ammo, which you should assume is always corrosive). Easy to strip and maintain. Lively recoil: a butt pad could be your friend. Can probably sell for what you paid for it. A Mosin with a good bore and crown (look around, they're out there) can be pretty accurate.

Shot my M-44 yesterday for the first time in months. I forgot how loud it was. :p The cornfields forming a mini-canyon around our shooting lane we built probably didn't help with the noise.
Also, the rifle certainly let me know I wasn't holding properly that first shot.

In Soviet Russia, rifle buttstrokes YOU!

MaterDei,

It looks like cell phone texting 'short hand' is finding its way into this forum... It wont be long until 'for' becomes '4', 'you' becomes 'U', etc...

hey, i got my mosin nagant m44 at a gun show. it had a safety malfunction and, it went off. we were up deer hunting, and luckily no one was hurt. i went to put it on safety after i shot at this deer (i did stick another one in the chamber incase it decided it wanted to get up again) and it didnt catch the action when i pulled it back, and i let it go (after switching it slightly to the left) and KABOOM!!!!!!!!!! and i was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem, or if anyone knows how to fix this.

The safety on Mosins are horrible. It's just too much of a pain. In fact, I don't think I've ever used the safety. Leave the chamber empty...problem solved.

forget a new stock, unnecessary. 100 dollars for a rifle, get another 50 dollars in new mfgr ammo of diff types, and find out which it shoots best. keep your targets from 100 yds on in, this is a fine shooting range, and should be your goal to get this close anyway. the open sites will be all you need. oh yeah, get the SMALL SIZE butler creek , slip on pad. worth every penny.

Not my first choice for a hunting rifle but I have hunted with my 91/30 and had good results. I get very respectable accuracy with hand loads.

Vaarok: Nice action photo.

Your militia need to go down to Georgia for a while in case the Russkies attempt another invasion of Atlanta.
Stone Mountain is a good observation point.

I'll drive ten hours to meet you (with a few guys from here and Desoto County: MN, SKS and AKs), with my MN 44s and the SKS.
My wife will serve hors d'oevres, high in fiber, so don't worry.

I bought the gun for 30.00 at a gun show. the stock is in horrible shape, you can tell it was used by some commie. the stock is essential. also i am having problems with the feather spring in the trigger, its not tight and i cant seem to figure out how to tighten it:banghead: this gun needs alot of work.

"Wuz" is not a word. It makes you looks ignorant.

It would behoove you to speak correctly in the future to gain respect from those your trying to associate with.
