Mossberg 500 troubles

I was unloading my Mossberg 500 20 gauge and the shells wouldn't go forward on the forward stroke of the pump. Just stopped there. Federal #3 Buck FWIW. Haven't seen this before. Worked fine when the gun's empty, and last I tried it fired other shells fine and fed these. I'm thinking it's jamming on the extractor/ejector, but I could be wrong.

Anyone seen this before? Any ideas to fix it?

It may not be the same thing , but I did see something happen on a winchester 1300 that wouldn't allow the forward stroke of the pump action. What was happening on that gun was that the retainer holding the second shell in (I'm not sure of the right word for the piece) was not holding it in strong enough.. so that the impact of the rearward motion of the pump was popping out a second shell as the first shell was being properly pulled from the tube. That managed to jam up the pump in the rearward position, becuase the shell could not feed past the second shell sticking halfway out of the magazine tube. Does that make any sense ?
As far as fixing it went.. well, I dunno.. it wasn't my gun.

sounds like you may have broken an extractor. my friends dad snaped one and it locked the whole gun up, even when empty. is yours unable to go past 1/2 bolt forward when empty?

Where's it stopping on the forward movement of the bolt? Could be the shells are mis-shapen and are jamming, could be the lifter is not coming up as it should or something else is wrong in the trigger plate, could be there'a a problem with the shell stops, action bars, fore-end tube or the outside of the magazine tube. Could be lots of things, hard to say without more info...

It goes back & forth fully when empty, but jams at the start of the forward stroke when loaded. I'm going to get some different shells and see if that changes anything.

Mine, the extractors will slip off the case in the barrel after firing if the case is very rusty. This is a pita as I have to dig out the leatherman knee deep in water out in the marsh to get it out. The case gets stuck in there hard enough I usually have to pound on the leatherman to break it loose. Of course, it won't chamber because there's a shell in there blocking it.

I've seen this very same thing happen to an 870, too. Wish they still made those Activ all plastic shells and in steel shot. Those things were great, nothing to rust.

I've also noticed that Remington 3" after being fired is so long it hangs the ejection port so I stay away from Remington ammunition. Winchester dryloc is my favorite for ducks. Federal Tungsten Iron for geese.
