Just got this nice used Mossberg 590 Mariner. It's great but I noticed that the pumping fore-end rattles a lot more (side to side) compared to my Remington 870. Is this normal, or is this a sign for the dual bar action mechanism wearing out?

There's always a certain amount of play with the fore-ends on the Mossbergs. Perhaps checking a new one out at the gunshop will let you know if yours is "normal" or not. Otherwise, try tightening the nut that holds the fore-end.

By the way, nice HK. Also, I suppose that you'll be getting a pistol soon (if not already) to complete a three gun combo.

The Mossbergs & Mavericks tend to be a little "loose" in this area vs. say the Rem 870, but doesn't seem to bother the function.

My Maverick 88 always is a bit rattle-y, but for the 15+ years I have had it, never failed to go BOOM! on request, and chunk out the empty.

Yeah it just rattles more than Remington does, so it got me alarmed. Otherwise it's a very solid shotty.
