It appears that Mossberg has finally released this version of their MVP.

If that's the case, there must be a member here that has one...(Hopefully)

Don't hold us in suspense.

Spill the beans if you own one.

A few specific questions

1. Thread dimensions for the muzzle?
2. How does it shoot?
3. What did ya pay for the little beast?
4. Overall length, weight, bbl length, balance, etc...?
5. Impressions concerning this rifle's synthetic stock? (sling swivel studs or not?). LOP?
6. Iron sights?
7. Other?

Last but not least.......... WHAT TYPE OF MAGAZINE DOES THIS RIFLE UTILIZE?

From what I have read, the MVP762 can utilize M14 mags as well as AR 7.62 mags. If this is the case, does one modify M14 mags such as the older Armalite AR10's, or is the magwell designed for either in unmodified condition?

PICS: The more the better. Please share pics of this rifle if you please.

Hey Mossberg: Feel free to send me an MVP762 for an evaluation. :)

I have plenty of M14 mags, and also have 3 7.62 P-mags that my Ruger SR762 came with, so I can give your rifle a go with either.;)

Are they even being made or for sale yet? Last I read, Mossberg was still 'planning' on producing it.

Thanks for the links.

The lady on the you tube video above states "M1A and AR10 style magazines"

The Mossberg website above states that the rifle accepts " M1A/M14 and LR308/ SR25 mags.

Hopefully they have an MVP Patrol coming out in 308, and they keep the MSRP close to that of their 5.56mm model.

If it is anywhere as accurate as their 5.56 MVP out of the box it moves to the "Do Want" list.
They have a great trigger design. I have to get used to push feed, however.

I'd love to see a AR type weapon that accepted both SR25 and M14 type mags. It would not be that hard, just lengthen the mag well a few thousandth, cut a slot for the catch in back and add a lever up front. Probably don't have to deal with bolt hold-open in a bolt action although it is a nice feature. Does the MCP have bolt hold open with both mag types?

i just handled one in a shop today. IIRC the price was in the mid $500 range. as with the ruger GSR, i like it on paper. however, the mossberg action seemed like sloppily made crap. if i were to go that route again, i would easily spend the extra $ and buy the ruger.

Seems no one can make a bolt to feed from the M-14 mags.

My dream would be a bolt action rifle that reliably fed from M-14 mags.

Until then, the Ruger Gunsite is my go to bolt rifle for hunting.

Anything else, M1A.

Back40:

Which model/version of the 762MVP did you handle?

Can you confirm the MVP's apparent ability to accept both types of magazines? (M14/SR25)
If it does accept both, can you describe how they managed to do it? ( Magwell)

As FSjeeper mentioned, bolt guns fed from M14 magazines just don't seem to reliably work together. ( Robar's seemed to suffer from the same reliability issues years ago when the plan was to build a precision rifle that shared magazines with the M21's.)

From what I understand, Ruger couldn't get the GSR to feed reliably from one either.....which led them into the magazine that is utilized for the GSR nowadays.

It exists.

But, it's banned from importation into the USA by the US State Department because parts of it are made in VietNam.

Australian International Arms M-10B series.
They are modern made Enfield type rifles in 7.62x51mm that use M14 magazines.

Guns or catfish . . . we seem hell bent on preventing Vietnam from going capitalist! Oh the irony!

I handled the black 7.62 patrol. Sorry, but no info on the mag issue. I picked it up and looked it over, bug after cycling the action a few times was turned off and put it back. Not meant as a knock on Mossberg (I already did that when describing the action), but given the other outfits that have been unsuccessful in building a bolt gun that operates reliably with m14 mags, I'd be surprised if Mossberg got it right.

It says here that the M10 utilizes proprietary magazines, roughly based off of the M14 mag.

I guess it doesn't matter much as us Yanks cant get um here.

Makes no sense to me, as some Black Hawk products are made in that country.

Besides...... everyone knows that if our government were to allow just one Vietnamese catfish into this country it would devastate our economy, and turn anyone who ate said fishy into an evil communist...:D

The horror:eek:

Anywhoooooos...... I figured that if there was an MVP 762 out there, then someone from THR would have it.

I could care less if it did not feed from M14 mags and I have plenty of them it would drive the cost of M14 mags anyway. As long as it feeds from the mag they design and it does not cost that much I say fine with me.

Handled one in the shop i work at and well.... seen better finish work on mid war mosin nagants and a nicer stock on a savage axis ... which isnt saying much, so im not one bit impressed at all but thats just my opinion.

The Mossberg MVP-308 uses both M14/M1A style magazines and SR25/LR308 style magazines.

The "factory" magazine supplied with the rifle appears to be a D&H SR25/LR308 10 round magazine.

The Magpul PMAG LR/SR Gen M3 magazines do not fit well. Magazines wobble while locked in place.
The 5.56 Mosberg factory mag is also clearly a D&H, so it makes sense.

The fact that it uses relatively cheap and widely available mags makes the detachable mag setup a lot more viable than the Ruger Scout... though I still prefer the stripper clip feed, flat floorplate, and adjustable aperture sights that my own FR-8 scout rifle has.
