What can I get for under $500 that is the most accurate and and dependable? I'm looking for a semi-auto in 9 parabellum.

Springfield XD, or get a Glock 19 and you can use the same mags. I will also throw the S&W M&P out there I love mine. But the most accurate of the three for me anyways is the Glock 19.

The XDm might run you a little over $500, but is pretty darn accurate. Also good choices are the SP2022 & CZ 75. Can't vouch for the Glocks, since everyone I know has one in .45 caliber.

Ruger P series. It looks cumbersome, but it works nicely. DA/SA and a 5" barrell for low to mid $300s.

love my steyr M9-A1.... but they arent as readily available... second to that i would say the smith M&P though you would have to find a good deal on a used one for under 500.

The Glock 17 or 19 and the S&W M&P can be had for right around half a grand, tax and fees excluded, with some shopping. Accuracy between them is a wash, but the M&P is more comfortable to hold, point and shoot. A couple of years ago I would have recommended the CZ75, and still would, but their prices have gone up.

CZ-75, Beretta 92FS - may be a little north of 500 on either.

I've also heard good things about EAA/Tanfoglio; The Witness goes for under 500 new.

CZ-75 or the Glock 17 you currently own or a Glock 19. It took me awhile to warm up to Glock. But now it baffles me as to why they're dissed so much. They're polymer...so? That polymer is EXTREMELY durable. In my humble opinion that Glock'll last about as long as any 9mm, save for a CZ, steel smith wesson or Browning High Power. Glock's Rock. Get an AGI DVD and the "Making Glocks Rock" title and work on it a bit. I want a 17 or 19 right now badly. Xd's and XD'ms are ok, but I am not a fan of the grip safety. It's not bad or anything, I just like to keep it as simple as possible. I have no issues with the xd's, just prefer Glock. One thing I prefer in the XD are the grip angles and trigger pull but you can adjust to a Glock's grip angle and trigger pull easily with a little useage.

I would also put the P228 on this list. My guess is that the used Zurich guns being brought in by PW Arms will be under $500

Rugers are great just don't like their feel. They are like bricks in the hand and god forbid you had to carry one all day.

I'm a Glock guy, but for accuracy, I believe the consensus is the CZ75 edges them out. I own the CZ75, the P01 & the RAMI in .40. But I carry the Glocks usually.

+1 on the recomendation for Tanfoglio pistols or also known as the EAA Witness. While they are not known for their great customer service, I have heard it is getting better. You can get the ''Match'' model for around $525, and it has a bunch of match grade parts and is a real steal!! I have 2 of the Tanfoglio's, a full size 9mm and a compact 40.s&w and they have both been flawless for hundreds of rounds and are every bit as accurate as my 1911's!!:D

CZ's are reasonably priced, super accurate and reliable. S&W 2nd and 3rd gen 9mm are underappreciated, undervalued and overlooked...BUT will shoot as well as most of the previously mentioned pistols. Plus they will eat ANY type of ammo loaded in their mags;)
