Most reliable 9mm carry pistol?

There are a lot out there. I will respond primarily by advising to go to a shooting range that rents several of the guns that the above Members have recommended. Try them out , shoot them, compare them. We can recommend anything to you, but it is ultimately your decision.
Size vs. weight vs. grip angle vs. mag capacity vs. Etc.

Secondly, I guess I will have to recommend that you try some of my favorite/preferred 9mm's. At this time, my top 9 that I use as a back up gun is my H&K P7. It is a dream shooter..... Fast and accurate. The Glock 19 is an excellent multi-role pistol. The Sig P6 would be close to the G19. For a full sized pistol , The Glock 17 , Sig P226, and the Browning Hi Power are all hard to beat. On the side of the P226, I recommend a West German model.

Those are a few. I could say CZ, but I have only owned one, but it was reliable and accurate.

Good luck with your decision.

Depends on your criteria. The US Army seems to think it's the Beretta. Mass numbers indicate the Glock 17 or 19. I'd be comfortable with a Sig 226 or 228, or HK USP as well. I'm still watching the Springfield XD line as well, but they look promising to me.

The real issue may be: why was the M&P jamming? Was it only for you, or for everyone who shot it? If it was your technique (limp wrist, thumb riding the slide, etc.), you might still have the same issue with whatever you choose.

H&K USP Compact, Glock 19, Ruger P95, Kel Tec PF9 (has never jammed on me past the 2nd shot the first time I ever used it

Glock and Ruger I've had have literally NEVER malfunctioned.

I've never owned an HK USP, but I have friend that has one.... it has NEVER jammed in over 5,000 rounds now.

That being said, I've used .40 S&W M&Ps now a couple times (including a compact model), and none of them had any problems. All ran like my Glock.... in fact so well, I'd have put it right up there with Glock, Ruger, H&K.... maybe you got a lemon?

There is no "most reliable" pistol. I'd say find one you like, shoot well, and functions 100% with the ammo you intend to use. You're bound to get as many different suggestions as there are posts.

I have two 9mm pistols that have never jammed in thousands of rounds... a west german SIG P226 and a S&W 910. The S&W 910 is inching towards 1000 rounds since its last cleaning...again with ZERO problems. I would put a S&W 2nd or 3rd gen pistol up against any 9mm out there. Mine is as reliable as my S&W revolvers:)

Nothing comes with a guarantee. Learn your malfunction and clearing drills and pray for a good day when you won't need to use them.

True. No guarantee, but some pistols have a much better reputation for reliability than others.

When you get into the reliability of a Glock vs. SIG vs. CZ vs. Beretta vs. Ruger, etc, it becomes luck of the draw, and maybe a minor tweaking, and most guns reach a 99.98% reliability level. Any one of them could be a lemon, or any one of them my never burp. Some just need a little work. You won't know which is which until you wring them out. That is why I said concentrate on malfs, because you never know when it's going to hang up. Hell, it could just be the AMMO..................

I have to agree with Sig. My duty Sig is a 40, but my department had 9mm first. If they are anything like the 40, they are bullet proof. I have shot 1500+ rounds through mine and it has yet to malfunction. Great guns.

Jammamatic M&P? Mine has gone over 5000 rounds now without a hitch. I love mine, I'm sorry uou had bad luck with yours. Second best in my book is the H&K P7 PSP. Its a phenomenal shooter and second to none in reliability.

I recommend another M&P.

I own five and my son's own two each. All have been flawless through thousands of rounds. I don't know what issue you had, but I've never heard of an issue that Smith & Wesson wouldn't fix for free.

My M&P stable:
M&P40 FS
M&P357 FS
M&P9c
M&P9 Pro Series (x2)

Well.....I can only tell you the pistols I have abused and fired significant rounds through without a hitch. In 9MM only per the OP's request........
Glock 17
Stoeger Cougar
Ruger P95
Springfield XD

Not that I ever reached a high round count with it, but CZ75. Carried one in some very harsh conditions (Iraq) and never had any issues with it going bang when I wanted it to.

I have 3 of them and been pleased with all.

S&W 5906

Springfield XD9 Subcompact

Sig P226

all great guns IMO.

The U.S. Army conducted durability testing of M9 pistols at Aberdeen Proving Ground. These tests revealed an average life of the M9 frame at around 35,000 rounds, of the M9 locking block at around 22,000 rounds, and of the M9 slide at around 75,000 rounds, all well in excess of the contractually-required service life of 5,000 rounds for the pistol. In addition, Government-witnessed tests of the M9 pistol at the Beretta U.S.A. facility resulted in average reliability of the pistol at one malfunction every 17,500 rounds.

Since the government spent a lot of time and money testing the M9 and Sig 228, I bought one of each. (Sig in 1993, M9 in 2006). Several thousand rounds through the SIG and several hundred through the M9 with flawless reliability so far.
