Most accurate milsurp bolt action rifle?

I've owned and shot them all Finns Swiss and Swedes and I had to say it but the French MAS-36 would shoot circles around the others. A French MAS36 in good condition can be a VERY accurate shooting iron.

As for all the rest I've found the whole notion of X country's rifles are all match grade vs Y country's crap to be a load of hogwash. Given similar condition all milsurp rifles are on a pretty level playing field in the accuracy DPT.

Except for the MAS:neener:

Accuracy is the ability to hit what you are aiming at....

If someone were to offer you $10,000 to hit an orange at 100 yards with 1 shot with no sighters with an issue rifle and issue ammo, which rifle would you choose?

I would choose a K-31 every time.
Reasons:
-I know that the sights are very likely to be dead on.
-The ammo is of very high quality and very consistant
-The sights allow for precise shots at 100 yards- many milsurps have a minimum zero of 300 yards, the only reason why I would disqualify the Swedish M96 from this test.

I agree, to an extent.

With good handloads, my czech 98/22 and 98/29, Yugo M48, and 03a3 will shoot with my Swedes and Swiss rifles. Only difference is that the swedes seem to shoot everything well and the k-31s shoot are only slightly less sensitive to the loads. Te one huge advantage of the swedish M96s that most peopledon't think about is their barrel profile. The M96s have the exact same barrel profile as an 8mm rifle, effectively giving the M96 a realtively thick barrel for the caliber.

My most accurate bolt action milsurp is a K31 (GP11), followed closely by an M39 (Black Hills Match). My Remington 1903A4 tags along at third (Winchester Silvertip, I need to try some Federal Match in this rifle).

The K31's GP11 ammo is definitely the most accurate milsurp ammo I have by far.

Well generally, I assume the K-31 is generally the most accurate bolt gun out there.

I never really liked them, the whole straight pull idea, but I'm going to get one next year. Like any surplus rifle(s), there are obviously some 91/30s, k98s, and M1903s that are more accurate than the K-31. but from what I hear if you want an accurate mi-surplus get a k-31.

Deerhunter,I have owned 9 Mosins, 5 k98's ,NONE of them were better than my worse k31. Granted ,there are probably some very accurate ones out there ? , but how many do you have to go through to get close to a k31?. I'd just buy the k31 and save some money.

I'm not saying it from experience, I'm just assuming logically there are some other mil-surplus rifles that are more accurate than some K-31s.

No doubt. A carefully put together mosin nagant with a new barrel will probably outshoot a K-31 with a worn out barrl that has had its muzzle dropped on rocks a few times.

As a whole, I have 6 K-31s, not a single one which could be considered an inaccurate rifle. I also have 5 Mosin nagants, only 2 of which are really worth taking to the range.

The whole paradigm under which countries operated was different. The Swiss wanted trained individual marksmen (the same can be said about scandinavian countries), the Soviets wanted human swarms to throw at and overrun the enemy.

Another vote for my K31.

I cannot shoot open sights for nothing, but there is something about that K31 that allows me to put it in the "10" (or someplace VERY close to 10) every time. I shoot, I look through the scope, I chuckle a little, and then I do a do-over. Same result.

And, the recoil is nothing like my .308 or .270.

Why would you hinder yourself with iron sights? You can only
hit what you can see!!!! Heavy barreled Win. Model 70 (pre 64)
30-06, Remington A-4 Springfield 30-06, British 303 T Sniper No.4:neener:

Or better than any of those, a Swedish M41B:cool:

There is also a sniper rifle build on a heavily modified K-31, though they are very rare in this country.

I have a German 98 in 8mm my grandfather pick up at Normandy I kicks like a mule but is very accurate

With my old eyes that's the whole point.

If it wasn't for those 03A3 sights I wouldn't be able to
shoot a milsup rifle with original irons and those Mauser
I don't know how anyone can use those things regardless
of their eyesight, but I've seen it done very well!

K31 no doubt, off the rack ,no modifications ,you cant beat it.I started off shooting hi-power with a 1903 and love them still, swedes great shooting pleasent recoil, but after buying three 31's the only thing that could make them better is to rebarrel one to .308 and put match sights on it.
