Most visually-appealing cartridges.

Generally speaking, the most appealing cartridges (to me) are the ones I've loaded.

I am a sucker for linked ammo, though, even if it was made in a dismal factory behind the iron curtain.

I also find spent casings attractive. Not sure why that is.

Sometimes it's not the cartridge, but the packaging that makes me drool.

Sometimes it's the scenery.

Other times, it's the quantity, and colorful boxes.

Then again, there's also heritage; handling the works of passed away family members.

Other times it's just for shock and awe.

And sometimes I just like to line them up and admire my handiwork.

But more than anything, I like it when they go "BANG"!!!!

After looking and enjoying this thread I got to thinking..man we're weird.

I guess my wife would rather me be lookin at cartridges than some of the other alternatives though.

1895 nagant.. that's something you don't see every day.

You got the gun that goes with those?

Jim in Anchorage... RIGHT ON. Real men shoot real man sized cartridges, and I was lucky enough, twenty five years ago, to know a wonderful old gentleman named Ray Meyer from Moraga, Cal. He had several large bore English double and single shot rifles. I was lucky enough to shoot a Thomas Bland & son 4 bore single shot which weighed 21 pounds. Good thing it did. The charge was 385gr of 1f and a 2000 gr conical bullet. You had to be standing, in order to take a step backwards from the recoil, And don't believe this crap about a "shove" instead of a "kick". The recoil from that cannon was SAVAGE and it hurt...bad.

Trent, I sure hope that room is over a slab, or has very heavily reinforced floorbeams :D. There's also no way that's anything besides the broom closet to your real ammo-room :p

I actually built those shelves with one sheet of particle board and 6 or 7 pine 2x4's. I didn't have much lumber on hand, it took me a little while to figure out how to make REAL sturdy shelves with just a little wood.

It's stood up fine with all that weight for going on 5 years now.

My ammo / reloading / magazine room is 12'x20'. And it's full.

Trent, are you telling us that you have a PKM, an RPD (two I think), an RPK, and a DHSK but you don't have an 1895 Nagant?

Two RPK's, one RPD. :)

And yes, you are correct, I do not have an 1896 Nagant. The oldest firearm I currently own is a 30-40 Krag.

(Well, I have an undated/ unserialed 12 gauge but I have NO idea when it was made; family heirloom lacking any identifiable marks. It is at least 4 generations old, but could be older.)

I think that qualifies as a "magazine" in the original sense of the word :D

ess45 beat me to the 6.5 Grendel.

I think the SS197SR [5.7x28] is a neet looking round, for sure.

OK my last post was mostly a jest, but this one is for real.

The most visually appealing round I have (to me) is one I made.

22-250 Remington nickle cases with vintage Speer 52gr Silver Match bullets.

(They don't make those anymore, they date back to the 60's/70's).

The few remaining rounds I have, were loaded from the last box I owned, in 2002, and I'm keeping them as-is.

This was *the* most accurate 22-250 load I had developed for my Savage 22-250, and it would send every one of these bullets through the same hole at 100 yards.

I keep it around for nostalgia and as a reminder - as I haven't been able to duplicate the performance of this projectile in any other load for that rifle.

You gave me an idea. I would like to come up with a way to save and/or recreate a few rounds as a collection of all of the loads I have loaded over time....maybe the greatest hits. I am thinking large binder with zip-lock plastic pencil holders....or maybe fishing bait plastic inserts. So it reads like a book.

Challenge accepted! :)

I like the looks of many rounds, .44 Magnum and .45 Colt always make me feel happy. But for sheer impressiveness it's hard to beat the .700 Nitro Express! No, I don't shoot those, but I know a store in Denver that keeps them in stock.
