I'm curious if there are any (internet-available and free) clips of tv shows/movies, or just plain old training video that shows what defensive gun play is really like. I am interested in realism here. The factors to consider are the speed which events unfold, how to acquire the right target and how to avoid harming innocent third parties, acquiring cover, all that stuff.

Even if its actual footage of a real gun fight, as long as it clearly shows what I need, that would be great.

Heat..that was great movie. Are you talking mostly about the bank robbery scene? Is there another scene? thanks.

Although that's more a military style engagement right. Any defensive ones? What lessons can you apply from heat to defense?

Check out Collateral with Tom Cruise and Jamie Foxx. From what I understand Cruise trained with a handgun extensively for that part.

Youtube. There are several security-camera videos of robbery attempts where shootings occur. I'm not gonna ask why you want to know. Good luck.

that is a pretty bad-ass scene... two from the hip, up to eye level and popped off three more... draw to finished before they knew what hit them....

I liked the shooting in "Apaloosa". Seemed very no-nonsense and unglorified.

Unforgiven. People in that one don't die cleanly and immediately, they don't feel awesome after killing, and they don't all seem to do heroic actions. Most movies don't show people panicking or freezing, or being scared or confused in any way.

Check out the gun fighting scene close to the beginning of "Ride With The Devil" if you like SAA's! But Heat, Collateral, Open Range were good. Way Of The Gun showed some of the more realistic "reload" scenes (particularly the final gunsfight scene with 1911's) I've seen.

If I recall, Heat was followed not long after by a very similar actual shooting in LA(?).

Cops had to use rifles because the perp was wearing a vest and the cops pistol bullets weren't getting through to him.

The videos looked like a scene from Heat.

I like The Unit...they seem to know what they are doing. I would have to talk to my agent friend to find out if they are actually following proper clearing procedures and such.

I don't understand why on earth people are picking Heat. In the bank seen they never run out of ammo. He shoots for like a solid 30 seconds on full auto with out a single reload. +1 for Appaloosa. I have watched that movie several times and have yet to even find a single flaw in any thing. The house is even using true 2x4s which is what they used back then. They reload on the precise number of shots.

Collateral. Tom Cruise had a good coach. He drew and killed two guys so fast, it had to be a sharp IDPA/combat shooters who coached him. I think he double tapped them both.
