Not a movie but a TV show. "The Wire". I can't think of another show/movie where you see 2 groups of guys shooting it out with each other on a street with not a single person being hit (except for a bystander). Someone accidentally shoots their own fellow robber, and the majority of gang killings are done at either execution style or via someone pulling a gun on someone at point blank range and shooting them. One of the characters, Omar Little is smart enough to use a shotgun for his primary weapon and is rightly feared by the majority of the residents of Baltimore's seedier side. Omar is also shown (gasp) actually cleaning his guns, and there is an amusing scene where he and an opponent (Brother Mauzoun) are in a standoff, with each of them describing why they have the advantage over their opponent (Omar suggests that his 1911 is much more likely to be victorious over Brother Mauzoun's Walther PPK). Not only are the gun scenes realistic, but the show in general is easily the best cop show I've ever seen, and I'm a big fan of that genre.

I liked the alley scene in Collateral too, but did anybody watch the special features showing the gun training Cruise went through and how they really filmed that scene? Blue screen. Cruise was shooting at nothing. Still like the scene though.

Collateral. Tom Cruise had a good coach. He drew and killed two guys so fast, it had to be a sharp IDPA/combat shooters who coached him. I think he double tapped them both.

Cruise was coached by Michael Mann's longtime friend and consultant for such things, former SAS man billed as “Andy McNab.” As Cruise put it, the fellow let him develop his own style. (You have to watch the DVD special features for this sort of thing :) .)

I thought The Kingdom was excellent.

And I have to say that the way it ends makes it a big-time hero story that you didn't necessarily see coming. I am not ashamed to say that I shed tears at that one.

Blanks at that range could still be lethal. A blue screen was probably the only safe way to film it...
