Bought some 209s and they wouldnt work.

Took to a gun shop and they looked at it and said musket caps not #11s

as you can tell I'm very new to BP. The area I live in is basicaly BP free.

My gun is an older Traditions inline I traded for.

The musket cap doesnt sount right but thats what the guy said.

Why musket cap as opposed to 209 or #11 cap?

Musket caps

I'm a big fan of musket caps and if you do have an inline that uses musket caps you are ahead of the game. I would hazard a guess that musket caps are just as hot as 209 primers with the advantage of being easier to handle. The most common musket cap is called a "top hat" because it has a flanged bottom making it easier to cap and decap.
Welcome to the world of muzzleloading.

Found em!

The only shop withing 100 miles of me is right down the road. Sells archery and BP stuff.

Anyway he had some "US Musket Caps" by CCI.

They work!

On my way to the farm to shoot BP for the 1st time ever.:D

All I can say is WOW.

It works.

Even though we do not have a ML season, I'm for sure gonna use it on what doe days we have.

Open sights, no scope and I was nailing the shoot n see at 50 easy. Thats all I need where I hunt 90% of the time.

Only used 100 gns of pyrodex shooting cheap all lead sabots.

Going to the metro mess this weekend and will look into more pyrodex pellets and a better hunting sabot.

Any suggestions?

What sort of accersories do I need to go along with the gun for shooting and cleaning?

Thinking i need a co0l little ditty bag to keep bullets primer and powder.

I may end up with a scope on the inline. I noticed the screws I have are too small for the mounts on the traditions. Do BPs have different holes than centerfire???

When I get a old school sidelock I wanna keep it as traditional as possible.

Dang that got me to thinking. I want a powder horn and some buck skins to wear. Maybe a pair of those leather mosicans that come up to the knee. Mountain man hat etc. Big knife. A squaw! jk about the squaw.

Today's squaws don't walk behind in silence. Things have changed.

Welcome to the sport. Here's my only inline, amongst some 40 other bp guns; it's a Traditions Lightning, and it also uses musket caps:

90 gr 777 and 295 gr Powerbelt shoots the same groups as my Winchester Model 70 30.06 at 100 yards, although the centerfire delivers more energy on target, I'm sure. Still, at 50 yards, it's all you could want.

Alas, however, I'm a bit like you. I used to hunt with a CVA .50 cal Hawken or .45 cal Kentucky, and I just bought a .54 cal percussion Lyman Great Plains Rifle that will soon be my primary (if I ever get the sights right). After that it will be a flintlock .54 GPR that I'm currently building.

I carry, and you should also, full powder flask, powder measure, capper with caps, short starter, bullets and a sidearm in the same caliber. Carry all but the sidearm in a pouch to reduce noise. And have available at camp a nipple wrench, cleaning fluid, range rod, spare nipples, breech plug remover, thread anti-sieze, cleaning patches, cleaning jag and bore lube.
