Must own guns, by caliber.

If you were trying to set an example of the "Y caliber is better than X caliber", what gun models would you use for examples.
Accuracy, craftsmanship, lowest price. I mean in that caliber, it's the most accurate gun offered, not your favorite because it fits your hand better, or because you own one, and never tried anything else. In warm fuzzy terms the best range gun.
I don't want to get into a urination contest with anyone, I just want to collect the most accurate examples of each caliber, and spend the least amount of money.
I'm going to set a few exceptions.
I know somebody is gonna say my 1911 hand made by (Insert some custom uber-smith here.) is the most accurate gun offered in .45.
Or the X pistol (For example a P7) is waaaaay more gun than a y pistol (Star).... I don't care.
That's not what I'm looking for.
Cheapest, well-designed, reliable enough to shoot at the range, most accurate, sleeper gun around.
If it becomes painfully obvious that there are two pistols that are very close, I may have to buy them both and decide myself.
Also, please keep it practical.
I know that desert eagles (and contenders) are accurate, I just don't think that they belong in the same category as a 686 snubby.

These are the handguns that work well for me in the calibers I shoot.

Since this is a "total value" sort of topic, rather than best at any price, you can't go wrong by throwing out whatever CZ-75B derivative comes in the caliber you want.

Agree 100% on many of the CZ 75B derivatives; I usually prefer a compact 9mm, but one of the stated criteria for this thread was for high accuracy "value" guns in various calibers, so I mentioned the P220 9mm, which is an excellent full-size value gun in 9mm. The ones I've seen are tack-drivers!

BTW, that new CZ P-01 is a gem!

The CZ75bs that I've shot were very unimpressive as far as accuracy is concerned.
They are a 'total package' gun with impressive design, and ergonomics, but the accuracy of a box-stock cz75 is not excellent, or even very good, none that I have owned over the years, at very least. Prolly best described as good for the money, just not best there is, by any means.
I have to get me one of those 9mm 220s.

Without getting into specifics (M66, 686, 625, etc.), some of the most accurate guns I own are my S&W revolvers.

So I will simply state choose the respective S&W in a revolver if it comes in that caliber.

As for the autoloaders, there are many choices. SIG gets my vote, but I wouldn't call them the best "value" being at the higher end of the $cale.

Like I said, I have a strong preference for compact 9mms over full-size 9mms, in fact, I shoot a lot of rounds through my Sig P228. But of the full size 9mms I've shot (Sig P226, P220 9mm, Beretta 92FS, S&W 5906, amoung others), I think that the P220 9mm is tops, and like the P225, its a shame that it appears that it is only available as "gray-market" surplus in these United States.

Boy, ain't this the truth! My Model #27 S&W is definitely more accurate than my P228, but then these two are like apples and oranges; the 9mm keeps it challenging for me!

.22 = Ruger Mk 2, I like the bull barrel model, stainless is nice too.

.32 = Colt 1903 Pocket model. Patton had one, what other reason do you need?

.380 = Walther ppk (ok Bond's was a .32 but we already covered that)

.38 = SW model 10, Colt Detective Special. Solid, reliable, six for sure.

.357 = SW model 65 3 inch.

9mm = BHP, FEG Clone.

.45 = Colt 1911, Government Model, Commander

.45 Colt = Ruger Vaquero, everyone needs a cowboy gun

.44 magnum = Ruger Vaquero, everyone needs a .44 you can hotrod

.22lr got to go with just about any Ruger auto here (MKII, 22/45 ect.)

.32, CZ-70

.38 SPL, See .357

.357 mag, S&W 586/686 or M-19

9mm, I haven't see one that was all that impressive except for the Star Firestar, on a good day, mine will outshoot any other 9mm I have ever shot or owned. This includes: Beretta 92FS, Star B, FM Hi Power, Ruger P89, Ruger P95, S&W 59, FEG, Kahr, S&W 5903, etc. Second choice for a range gun would be a BHP or any Hi Power clone, they seem pretty accurate out of the box and some people get really accurate ones.

.40, the best one I have seen is a Glock 23 and that wasn't great.

.45, SIG 220, a little pricy but you get all the preformance out of a $600 220 as you will out of a $1500 1911 so I think in a way it is a sleeper.

Funny, I haven't heard anybody diss the star line of pistols. Ever.
I'm thinking there may be a reason for that.
Everybody I talked to bragged their cz75 up, but the two I have don't shoot that accurately.
