Muzzle-swept in a gun shop - should I be PO'd?

it happened to me before and it did p@#$ me off.but the best thing to do is politely tell them that gun safety rules are redundent for a reason.and that is even if you forget to clear a weapon, its already in a safe direction and vice versa.

If you come up to me and ask to see a pistol in the case, you're going to instantly be "swept" by virtue of the fact that all handguns are pointed outwards in the case, and if you're standing in front of it, it's pointed at you. Same thing goes for when putting it away.

Guess what: when you walk into a shop, muzzles are pointed in your direction. Even if no one's touching them, you're still being "swept".

Unpermissable behavior is picking up a weapon and aiming it at someone. Having the muzzle of a cleared weapon sweep you for a split second during the process of handing it over, isn't the same thing.

I'd just correct anyone who does it the first time and complain to management or go elsewhere if they don't heed your warning.

I beg to differ. A gun in a case is an inanimate object entirely incapable of being fired or discharged. A gun in a person's hand, however, is a weapon entirely capable of being discharged. I don't have any problem walking by the side of a display case with all the display pieces point my way. Nor would I consider that being swept. Once it's in your hand, it's your responsibility to make sure to show me and anyone in the vicinity that the weapon is rendered 'safe'. What's wrong with pointing it at the ground s soon as it's in your hand? To iterate, a gun in a case is not a gun in someone's hand, no matter what you say.

Apparently some are ok with having uncleared weapons pointed at them either by accident or on purpose... No more preaching the four rules for you..

I don't care to argue the same point over and over and over. I've explained what happened, how it happened, how I felt when it happened and afterward and why I posted this topic.
