Howdy, folks. I was at my local range, Iron Sights yesterday and I was shot in the foot!!! But don't tell me to sue or see a doctor, I'm fine. I don't know exactly how it happened, but my friend "Dave" was in the lane next to me trying out a Kimber 1911. I was aiming in, he shot and it felt like someone threw a casing at my foot. Considering that the lanes are all divided by walls and he was to the right of me, I knew it wasn't a casing. I look down and I see a .45ACP bullet sitting by my foot...must've been a ricochet or something. I think that there was an angel sitting on my shoulder that slowed the bullet down and pushed it towards my foot.

My Dad and I were shooting in an IPSC match together several years ago and as he engaged a steel popper, one of his rounds richocheted back, flew over his left shoulder and hit the range officer behind him COM. It left a nasty bruise on the RO and fell to the ground at his feet. It scared the :what: out of both Dad and the RO but ultimately, no harm done.

I shot the case head out of a .357 sig cartridge with my .22 at 50 feet. Dang bullet deformed a little bit, turned around and hit me in the thiegh (I was shooting prone).

Last season at an IDPA shoot I was watching and got stung square in the breastplate with splatter... It was hard enough to draw blood through my tshirt. I then realized just HOW important eye protection is.

I've been hit in the leg with 7.62x39mm splatter from what I would assume was a hidden rock at the "right" angle in a dirt berm to send some chunks back. It stung but didn't penetrate or bruise. A big chunk hit my boot too, hard enough for me to notice, but not enough to do any damage.

It's an associated risk with shooting that odd things can and do happen, despite being statistically unlikely. You can wear a full suit or armor while shooting or just assume the risks are part of the activity.

I have my deformed bullet from a riccochet. Happened at last years THR/TFL shoot in central Washington (this years commin' up). One of the guys was shooting a .40 at some bowling pins. I was standing a good distance to his right and was remarking how much of an "over achiever" the ejector spring was on the gun. The emptys were almost hitting me. Then I heard a thump less than a foot in front of me that didn't sound like a shell. Looked down and there was a slightly demormed bullet. Been in my pocket ever since.

My girlfriend(now wife) was shooting my .44 Mag at a bowling pin at an outdoor range. When she fired, I felt something biting my arm, and I thought that it was an insect since it was summertime. When I looked at my left forearm, there was a piece of led sticking out of it. It was about 1/4 inch long, and was imbedded about half of the way in. If it happens two more times, I can go home from Vietnam. [/Kerry]

Firstly, glad you weren't hurt.

The last cowboy action shooting match I went to I was acting as a spotter and I felt this little tug at my shirt. Looked down and there was a fully mushroomed .45 slug sitting in my shirt pocket. Must've bounced off the steel target and arced into my pocket as neat as could be (was still a little warm).

Maybe your friend is telling you something? ;)

Can't say I've ever been hit at the range but I've had my share of BBs bounce off my forearms and such.

Recently had a round of Blazer .45 discharge in the box! We were at an indoor range at the station preparing to shoot. It A) Either spontaneously combusted or B) A spent casing from the guy shooting next to us bounced off the ceiling hit on it and touched it off.
His auto ejected almost straight up and to his right. The rounds were slamming off the ceiling then raining down on our station and I was just ready to abort when the round went live.

When it ignited the heavy bullet went down and launched the casing which bounced off the plastic divider wall and hit my son in the hip. Left a big old nasty bruise about the size of a silver dollar. Almost but not quite broke the skin and he was wearing Levis and boxers.

The plastic divider with rounds in the brand new box was extending out of the box by about 4 rows. The round that lit up was the corner unit and the plastic divider was burnt, deformed and beat up.

Very strange and really shook my son up. The range people said "cowboy up" get back on the horse and ride.

Another 45 failure to stop!:D

Glad you are OK. The paperwork would have been horrendous if you had to go to a hospital!:barf:

I was taking an Intermediate Handgun course this past weekend and everyone was on the line. It was an outdoor range. Very popular with Law Enforcement officers.

During training, the guy next jumped up and said, "WHAT THE HECK WAS THAT??!!!" I heard a sound like a bump and I looked over to him. He had his free hand on top of his head. He got a ricochet from the LEOs next door, but it barely went through his skin...kinda like someone threw it over. I saw the bullet on the ground.

:what:

thats something that scares the **** out of you when it happens but afterwards you can usually laugh about it. 2 years ago I had a friend almost blast me in the foot from about 1 foot away with a 410 while squirrel hunting. Holding it at the ground next to me. It scared him as much as me and hes alot more careful hunting or shooting in general. Thats something that still gets brought up when we hunt and I always make sure now his finger is off the trigger. Its important to pay attention to gun safety but just as important for the people around you to do the same.

I would not say he was an ex-friend.

However, I might say said friend may owe you a steak and a beer for shooting you :p (and no end of teasing "More dangerous to be shooting next to him than to face him downrange..." and all that)
