Ok guys and girls!
I thought I'd post about this, just in case anyone in Colorado didn't know about the place.
Called "Green Mountain Guns". Nice good sized private owned shop. They have tons of new firearms, and the biggest selection of consignment and used stuff I've ever seen. Prices are usually better than any Box Store or Gun show. Sales staff is friendly, and seem to enjoy their jobs.
They have tons of reloading stuff as well.... well... a lot for a small shop, at least.
I highly suggest this place to anyone in Colorado. I drive from Brighton and it takes me about 45 minutes to an hour to get there. Well worth it.
I have a local shop 2 blocks from my house bu the guy that owns it is not eprsonable, the shop is a mess, and he's very high priced. I understand that he can't compete with big businesses, but I just hate the mood the place puts me in. That's why I'm willing to drive an hour both ways to go to green mountain.
If any of you are in Colorado and haven't been there, check em out.
It's my new go-to place and all my buddies love the place too.
That is all.... good lord... I should get paid for this endorsement! haha. But seriously, it's a pleasure to let you guys know about them. AWESOME STORE!!!

Here's where it's located:
3355 S Yarrow St
Denver, CO 80227

Go there....NOW!

Thanks Nightwing
I've heard good stuff about then but I've never been there. I talked to them several times when I was looking for a specific gun and they have been very pleasant and helpful. I'll have to drive across town one of these days and check them out

Green Mountain Guns is great.

I shop there alot and they "know" me. I have gotten some great deals there and their prices are fantastic on new guns as well as the best selection of used guns in the state.

The only 2 gun shops I do biz with are Jensen's in Loveland and GMGs in Lakewood.

The only store in Longmont is Grampas Pawn in Longmont... I wouldnt buy a gun there on a bet.

I'll second the whole Grampas Pawn thing /yuck.
Guess I'll be headed to Denver as soon as I get home.

Yeah I like Jensen too. Once again, a long drive for me. But they keep stock of a lot of AR-15's and some fun stuff. Purchased my first pistol there actually. It was a impulse buy when I knew nothing about guns, and they talked me into a walther P-22. I hated it and it suffered 2 barrel and slide replacements from the factory before I sold it. Never got to have any fun with it. Sold it, and turned around a purchased my Sig. Will NEVER EVER sell my Sing. Best handgun I've ever fired.
There's a place 3 blocks from my house called "Brighton Bait N Bullet". It's painted bright orange with browning logo's all over the building.
I'd love to buy there and drop in more often but the owner is sort of a hermit and he's very grizzled and I jsut don't enjoy going in there. Sad. I'd love to support a local shop. Even glad to pay a little more. But every time I buy anything there he's like.... "here it is... pay me..... goodbye".
So....too bad.
Green Mountain.... just awesome. Especially if you want to find a used gun! Just awesome.
And Jensen is great for tactical stuff. Those guys are nut cases.... and I love shopping there.

5280 Armory..

Another good shop in the Denver area is 5280 Armory
http://www.5280armory.com/

They have limited shop hours but do have a huge set up at the Gun Shows. They carry LOTS of AK's and just about anything semi-auto.
They even stock Wise Lite Arms firearms, but I have known the owners (Matt & Gina) long before I worked for WLA. They are good folks and always did right by me.

Specialty Sports

I have kinda mixed experiences W/ Specialty Sports. The prices are always high & the service is kind of hit & miss. Sometimes the staff is decent sometimes they can be real jerks.
Kinda curious has any one else had similar experiance ?

Now here is a topic I know a little about... A quick count says I've purchased 9 firearms from Green Mountain Guns in the last year. Your right Nitewing, they are the best of the best in Co. Of course it helps that I live about 6 blocks south on Wadsworth

I especially like the used guns, gotta stop by a couple times a week to see what has been brought in on consignment before someone else snatches it up. Lots of great deals to be had, and good deals on hard to find ammo too.

I found a used but good condition NAA Guardian .380 for $275, took it to the range and the transfer bar broke the first time I fired it... took it back to GMG and they shipped it to NAA at their expense. Got a call about a month later telling me pick up my now factory certified like new gun, I couldn't be happier with that deal. I also found a LNIB GP100 6” for $325 that I grabbed the minute I saw it, and an excellent condition PPK, also for $325. The good deals go fast, you just gotta check in often.

On second thought... they suck bad... you guys should all just stay away... let me be the one who takes the risk of buying used at GMG.:neener:

5280 has a good selection at pretty good prices too, but little or no consignment sales, plus the help is young and kind of tacticool, and they are never open. Their booths at the gun shows are always busy and well stocked but the gun shows around here just plain suck. ...and GMG doesn't charge admission.

I hear good things about Jensens but I've never made it up there.

It sounds like you may have some new competition in me... haha. I can't pass on a good used gun deal!

I just moved to Arvada from Kansas City 3 months ago. I had been looking at Jensen's Gunbroker auctions well before that as they ALWAYS seemed to have one of everything I wanted. Since moving here, I've dumped about $3K into that place, so I think I'll give Green Mountain Guns a shot soon. Much closer too.

I've had trouble getting to 5280 Armory, but I may make extra efforts. I'm looking to snatch up another AK while I still can, and it sounds like they might have what I'm looking for.

I'm enjoying Colorado thus far though! I had Left Hand Canyon to myself for 3 hours today. Mountains and guns just belong together. :)

I prefer Jensen's, but I'll pop by this place.

:barf:

Even their excellent ammo prices aren't enough for me to deal with the attitude that comes from the woman sitting at the register.

Good shops in the metro area:

Green Mountain(Sheridan)-all around good selection, generally knowledgable staff

Rocky Mountain Guns & Ammo(Parker)-New owner (Brandon), now an awesome place to shop.

The Firing line(Aurora)-Deal with Richard, Bob or Chris. Probably the largest selection of new & used on the front range, lots of cool collectible stuff.

Scotties guns(Denver)-hole in the wall on Colfax, best place around for C&R, especially the rare stuff. Steve is usually the one running it, very nice, very knowledgable guy. If you buy, cool. If not, he likes to hang out and BS all day too.

5280 Armory (Arvada)-Matt & Gina are very good people, and they have the best prices in town, bar none. Autoloading rifles are their bread & butter, but they have a good selection of handguns and mil surps too. Great place for Eastern surplus ammo.

The gun room (Lakewood)-Good place for hard to find stuff. Nice clean shop with a good selection of new and used.

Rocky Mountain shooters supply (Ft. Collins)-OK, I'm biased because my sister works there. But seriously, it's a really nice shop/indoor range with tons of merchandise and good help.

Those are all that comes to mind off the top of my head for good selection, good prices and good service, but I'll add to the list if I can think of any others.

Very true. I think there are two.

One of them is just TOO STRESSED no matter what. Not something I like when I'm around guns in any situation, considering I enjoy them.

I don't agree

I don't agree, and I don't see the point in putting an "ad" up for a specific gun shop.

I did not get good service in there. That was the specific store, that when I took my wife in and asked the clerk to permit her to operate the action of any pump shotgun, so that she could see that she could do it okay, the clerk simply said "No."

That was on my third visit to the store to look at a shotgun purchase.

I posted this earlier, without mentioning the shop.

Whereas this or any shop may be generally okay, I don't think I will ever return to any shop that doesn't honor a reasonable request.

We ended up visiting two of the big "box" stores that day, and both times were were permitted to handle and operate pump actions.

I've bought firearms from two other stores in the metro area, and I have always gotten good service, so what's great about the one place in the area that did not give me good service?

It does not matter if 2 of the 3 people working were great guys. One employee cancelled that deal real fast.:uhoh::uhoh:

I've generally gotten good service there. Their prices seem to be competitive compared to the other shops in town. They're nothing to scream about, but then again, it's unlikely that they'd have guns at bargain basement prices given the absolutely stunning amount of inventory they've got.

hmmmmm

I think I have been to every gun store in Denver or the surrounding areas.....

GMG is the best... and Bruce. I will check in with Ron about your experience at GMG. I am guessing there is more to this story. They have never told me or anyone I know that they could not look at a gun, work the action etc. I have looked at and bought literally hundreds of guns from them and never had that problem. This is the store I got my Elephant ear gripped Bullseye Match Target in 98% for $400. I almost cried when I got that deal.

Anyway. GMG has the best prices on used, and very good prices on new. They are friendly and courteous. They are not a tactical shop, but do carry Bushmasters.

Jensen's is the best for tactical stuff, including NFA items. Their rices aren't bad, not great, but not bad and the selection of stuff is good.

Parker Arms is OK. Only been there a couple times.

Scotty's is fun if you need obscure items.

Just be glad Dave's and Dean's have closed. You could be in for a huge reaming if you walked into there. Prices higher than MSRP. Surly help who would rather spit on you than help you. I'm glad they are gone.

5280 is a fun place. Alot of AKs and they buy items in bulk and stock it deep. They do the gun shows and I use them for my background checks. Nice people. Prices are pretty good and their booths are always crowded. The store does have weird hours, but like Matt said, they really do most of the biz at the shows.

Anyway GMG is prolly the best gun shop on the front range. If you go, say hi to Merv and the Rons for me.

Mixed feelings on Jensen Arms

I just picked up a Ruger 77/22 rifle from Jensen Arms in Loveland; I had previously ordered it from Davidson's Gallery of Guns. I have mixed feelings about Jensen's. Their selection is impressive and the prices are decent, but twice I've left them phone messages and not gotten a call back. And when I went there to pick up the Ruger on a Saturday, they initially thought that I was asking them to order the gun from Davidson's. Their response was that they were too busy to do that, and that I should come back on a weekday. Telling a face-to-face customer that you're too busy to help him doesn't work for me, especially after I've driven more than 30 minutes to get there. If I really had wanted to order the gun rather than just pick it up, I think I would have left and not gone back.

FWIW, I like Ross, the guy who runs GunSport in Boulder, but his prices are a little steep.

I stopped by GunSport in Boulder as well last week. Not very big, but they had a wide variety in their pistol selection, including some more obscure stuff (Springfield Omega Longslide 10mm caught my eye).

I like a shop where you can shoot the poo if it isn't busy.

Specialty Sports

I have kinda mixed experiences W/ Specialty Sports. The prices are always high & the service is kind of hit & miss.

I've bought a couple of guns there and price shopped many more. Their prices are either competitive or a little high; however, I think their service is excellent. I've been in there a number of times when I wasn't going to buy and without fail, every salesperson I've encountered was willing to talk to me about the guns and pull anything I wanted out of the counters to handle. I really can't think of a time I've had a bad experience. I'm willing to pay the premium for that kind of service.

Oh, and their inventory is incredible. :)

Long way to drive from the Springs.

Specialty Sports is a nice place to shop. It is well laid out and they have a lot of inventory. The prices are a bit high, but they have never failed to take a trade I've offered.

"Green Mountain Guns is great."

Yes, it is. I know more than one shooter who switched store loyalty after dealing with them.

I've bought two pistols from Specialty Sports, they've always been generous on my trades, friendly staff, good service, awesome inventory, very nice store. Its where I go when I'm looking for a gun.:)

Does anybody have an address or website for Specialty Sports?

I googled and got what seems to be a big ski/mountain store. Is that the right one? Or is it a smaller "gunshop"?

I don't believe Specialty Sports has a website.

I purchased a S&W 340PD from them a while back and was pleased with the purchase. The prices are a bit higher but it is handy since they have a great selection.
