Evil5,
Our prayers are with you.

I have people in Slidell, La. and Pikayun (sp?),Ms. I also know a coupe who live on Lake Pontchartrain. At night you can see the lights from NO from their house. My cousins in Slidell lost their house. My cousin in Pickayun had a little damage to his house. He hasn't been able to get to the parents house yet because of all the downed trees. They're visiting some realitives in Idaho. They were told by the airlines they wouldn't be able to get a flight back home to Ms. for atleast a week. I haven't heard about the couple on Lane Pontchartrain yet. I'm praying they didn't loose their house.

Holy s**t!!!

Im glad i live in colorado. I wish you the best of luck and pray everyone makes it through. Hard to believe something like this can possibly happen.

Remindes me that i *still* need to get some ammo for my mini 14.

Here is my ulimate fear...

CDC is coming here, along with the National Guard, etc., to try and take care of the situation. Looting is rampant in the hardest hit areas although Mobile is still ok.

Gas shortages are starting to pop up not just area wide, but state wide, even all the way over into Atlanta. As gas shortages get worse, so will the situation.

You can do the math and see what I'm getting at.

Again, please bail out now while you can, especially if you have to go farther than one tank of gas. The situation down there is continuing to decline and there's not a single possession that's worth staying for.

I have enough gas in the Mustang to get my probably 300 or so miles before having to fill up.
Beware highwaymen and ambushes. Have someone riding honest to goodness shotgun.

Stay safe, travel with good people around you. Bring a spare 5-gal gas (and water) can when you do have to fill-up.

Our Prayers are with ALL of you law-abiding good people.

Evil5liter,

Good luck and be safe bubba. Here's hoping that you can either keep the wolves away from the door, or outshoot the looting SOBs.

Evil5, I am in Birmingham. No room at my house (living with in-laws now), but can assist with help finding you other accomodations around here. Please let me know if I can help. God bless and watch your six.

I grew up on Bayou LaFourche nprth of Grand Isle. Ex brother in law still there. He said around his place no real damage from water just wind.
But looking at the news footage I would guess 80-90% of the area frim NO to Mobile totaled. Some may be just a frw blocks inland other places a mile or more.
Food and water run out or can't get there fast enough.....

Prople ain't what they used to be. :fire: :cuss:

OK, I know you've been told this before, but I'll say it again.
Get you and your family out of there.

You have time to make plans, think rationally get out. Those animals in New Orleans will eventually break out and start moving. think about it, the foods spoiling and they will need to find better hunting grounds. You're in their path.
The government won't be able to protect you.

EVIL5LITER, God be with you and your family. Get out now, I have space, if you need it, pm/email for directions. Stay Safe.
I'm an hour south of B'ham and right on AL280, so an easy 200 mi. trip for you.
PM/email me if you need hots and cots. Good hospitality, good BBQ, places for the kids to play. Whatever you need.

Godspeed.
Ben/Felonious

A couple of full gas cans might be a good thing to buy as you get out of town...

Gas prices are going up, but worse are the shortages.

If you are going to leave the area you better leave now while you can easily do so, instead of later when it becomes difficult.

Keep in mind most gas stations have a limit on how much gas you can purchase with a credit card. $100 at many, some are $80, Chevron only $60.

Those animals in New Orleans will eventually break out and start moving.

Good point....in fact, I saw a fleeting report last night that the "incidents" (I'll avoid the whole looting/foraging/scavaging thing here) were spreading outward from the downtown area to those areas surrounding the city.

No further mention of it though, so it may have been one of those ox-before-the-cart stories.

Get outta there! As a former fellow Mississippian I feel qualified to say that Mississippians are crazy on a good day  . This is much much worse. Head north. Say to South Dakota.

Seriously, Good luck and God speed.
Take care of yourself and yours.

Just heard on the news that they had suspended evac from the Superdome, shots being fired at NG trucks and the helos overhead...

If this is true, it's time for the Army and National Guard to call in close air support. Armed looting is bad enough, but shooting at the means needed to evacuate the elderly and the incapacitated is beyond unconscienable.

AZ has lots of room, very few natural disasters, and DOC will hire just about anybody with a heartbeat - they hired me, for crying out loud! Please get out of the madhouse - the last estimate I had for NO area was no power for months.... :(

I'd loveto move to my adopted state, AZ is lovely, but what about the water situtation and wildfires :)

No place is immune, the key is to do a risk assessment and be ready.

You can hang up finding gas cans, empty or full. You fill up what you can. I have a 5 gallon jug, a 3 gallon, and a 1 gallon jug, and right now all are empty. I'm on my last four gallons for the generator, my 4wd has about 1/3 of a tank in one tank and less than a 1/4 in the other. The mustang is still full.

Evil5, get outta there. Take whatever is valuable or irreplaceable to you, and disable the rest (pull bolts/firing pins on any firearms left behind & hidden). Take what water, legal docs & papers & gas & food & cash you can, and go. There's lotsa room in Texas, and folks are nice also in OK, KS, NE, SD, ND, IA...
Wait for the waters to recede & some semblance of social order to be restored, or the thugs eliminated, before you return--if possible.

At worst, drive OUT of the affected area, rent a Uhaul and load it up with food water gas etc and return home.
Good luck & Godspeed.

Go North!

All the word we're getting is that the Gulf coast is going to be down for a while, electricity wise. I've got an Aunt and Uncle in Mobile and they bugged out before the 'cane hit. Haven't gone back yet. Especially if you've got a family to keep safe, hell, even if you don't, split anyway. You may find soon that you can't. Stay safe.

A nice change of pace, power is back on at my house. Gas is still non-existant, but that should change as more and more power is restored.

I'm hoping that the local supermarkets will start opening soon and getting the shelves restocked, that would really help out with the food situation.
