What would you the THR members have done?

Are there any guns in your home? "Only when we're being raided by the police."

Does anyone smoke in the home? "Only when we set them on fire."

Does anyone drink alcohol in the home? "Does Sterno count?"

Stupid questions deserve stupid answers.

Are there any guns in your home? Yup .. my baby's got biguns all right.

Does anyone smoke in the home? Only when they're on fire.

Does anyone drink alcohol in the home? No, my wife makes me stand out in the rain. Makes me shower out there too.

:neener:

Dear Teacher-
I cannot confirm nor deny the presence or lack there of the presence of said items in my house. Wither or not they are there is none of your concern, as I raise my child, no your or your flawed "village" that tells my child what to think.
Please do your job and teach my children how to read, write, do math, and learn history-oh wait..you revise that to your whims.

or in plain english-
It's NONE of your F%^&%$# bussiness, Shut the F%^& up, and do your job-teach. I am doing my job, so take your village and shove it up your A$%!

Thank You

Stupid questions, stupid answers

Are there any guns in your home? Is a 40 Watt particle accelerator a gun?

Does anyone smoke in the home? Only crack, and only on Sundays.

Does anyone drink alcohol in the home? No, and we dont make it either. You can tell the Revenuers I said that.

Dear School Administration:

Re your questionaire please call 1-800-SHYSTER, the offices of Dewey, Screwem & Howe. Please have a list of your tangible assets available including but not limited to your salaries, property & stocks and bonds owned. Your response must be made within 30 days to allow the court enough time to render a fair judgment.

Thank you for your interest. :neener:

Kids are all long since publik skool age, but I did get a ?-aire like this once..

My reply:

Just how, exactly, is this ANY of your ???? business ?

Never got a reply

Lots of emotional replies here and I can certainly understand why. However, if I ever got such a questionnaire from my child's school I would write a formal letter to the principal, send it registered mail return receipt requested and then send a copy of the letter to my local paper for publication and all officials in my town and state whom I could think would have an interest in this matter.

No threats, no harsh language, just a simple question, "Why are these questions being asked?".

Kinda like picking up a big rock to watch all the bugs underneath scurrying away.

Hot Brass...

I see that you are in California. And, a lot of Kentucky Folk are indeed mystified by the goings on out there, but there MUST have been a reason you were given for such intrusive questions! What was the justification that was provided for this insulting "questionnaire"? What happened to privacy in one's own home? Sounds to me like someone is trying to create a problem where none exists.

Demand an explanation.

Send them (teacher and principal) a letter referring to the questionaire and demanding an explanation into the private matters of a household.
Send copies to the school board, the state NRA branch, my state and federal representatives.

Okay, I live in California, so most of the school board and reps can't read anyway; nor would most of them understand the constitutional concepts that make this conduct at best offensive.

But one should do something.

I would call the school to schedule a Parent Teacher Administrator conference immediately to go over this questionaire, the reasoning behind it in order to judge how it was going to be used to further the education of my child.
After that phone call, I would sit down with my spouse and all of my children, presuming they are of the appropriate age and discuss each of the 3 items in the questionaire to further their educate from MY Point of View.
A. We don't talk about guns in the house to strangers or anyone outside of our immediate family as it is none of their concern.
B. Discuss the dangers of smoking, the history of it along w/ the tax revenue generated by tobacco.
C. Discuss the same per item B above for booze.

Once I felt the kids had a grasp on MY take of the situation, I would go to the scheduled appointment and say the same things to said teacher/administrator and learn WHY they wanted to know, exactly WHAT they wanted to know and (repeating myself here) HOW they were going to use this info in their endeavors to continue educating OUR kids. If I didn't like the answers they gave me (and I probably wouldn't), I would request that my son or daughter be given some alternate assignment that WE (parent and child) could work on together... If it really was related to schooling as opposed to "busybodyness" on their part...

But I'd say you did good Hot Brass. I'd still talk to my kids about all three things, labeling the last two as Legal Drugs and segue into "Non-Legal" drugs and their proper relationship and consequences in our daily lives.

Adios

Don't get me going ... :banghead:

Seriously, these sort of things are probably going to be more and more common, and while it's obviously easy to decline the opportunity to lift the edge of the tent to allow the snooping nose of the camel further access ... the reality is that the teachers, and other school officials and health care providers, are already asking the students these questions.

How our children answer them outside of our presence ... and many young children WANT to please their teachers ... is the real situation to be addressed.

We raised our children to have a healthy & "proper" respect for authority ... but at the same time, to also have a healthy suspicion of the motives & antics of authority, and to be willing to question it if something didn't seem properly reasonable.

We all realize that in many instances these questions are being asked with the purest and most reasonable of motives ... the best of intentions ... but we also know that the road to hell is still the road to hell, and no matter how nicely paved it may be, and how comfortable of a ride it might be ... what good will any of that do once we actually arrive at the destination? :scrutiny:

Silence is golden ... and it's also a good lesson for youngsters.

Will our children thank us for the society we're giving them?

I went to my 6 year old's open house a few months ago and as I was looking through her journal that they keep in class I found the page that just happened to be on on Monday after we had gone to the local gunshow. She of course had written all about it and even drawn pictures. I'm still waiting to hear about that one from the school.

Just say no. In situations like these, the path of least resistance works for me.

Are the guns in the home: No, but my dad won't let me climb on the tank.
Does anybody smoke: All of us when mom burns dinner.
Is there any alcohol: Yes, but nobody bothers since the drugs are better.

One time when our now 25 year old son was in elementary school, we got an invasive questionaire that was to be answered and turned in the following day. I explained to our son that these questions were improper and would not be answered by me. He thought that he might get in trouble for failing to answer the questions. I assured him that if he received any flak over our noncompliance that the teacher and the principal would hear from me, personally, and in their office. Nothing was said and he did not get in any trouble. That does not mean that the school did not take notice of our lack of several answers on the paper. They probably layed that to my being a Vietnam vet.:D

When our daughter was in a Christian Preparatory School in the 11th grade, she was asked to write a paper in which she was to pick a controversial subject, write on the subject from the standpoint of either pro or con. She chose "Gun Control, and the Right to Keep and Bear Arms". She got her paper back with a note at the top from the teacher saying, "While I do not agree with your point of view, you presented it well and wrote an excellant paper". She received an A+ for her paper.

:)

Are there any guns in your home? Are you looking for additional storage space?

Does anyone smoke in the home? No, we keep a fire extinguisher by the door and use it on anyone smoldering before they come in.

Does anyone drink alcohol in the home? Only when there are more than 27 days in the current month.

:D

I wouldn't want to be less than honest with them.:scrutiny:

A few years back. My cousins daughter fell at the school playground, and got pretty banged up. At the hospital the Dr. asked her if there were any guns in her home! Yep this is in California and this type of stuff goes on.

I forgot.... she answerd the question!
