Mr Lieberman,

I thought I'd let you in on some correspondence between myself and Bob Simmons. My reply to his email comes first:

Dear Bob,

You are a breath of fresh air sir. I recently, once again, wrote Mr Lieberman with my concerns on HIS stance on gun control hoping that maybe he'd be modifying a bit now that he is now longer obligated to the Democrats. Once again I received no reply. That has been his response to all my emails on the subject over the last few years. You can count on my vote once again. If you run into Mr Schlesinger please tell him I for one was very impressed with his showing against the other two. He can count on my vote as well. I wish you both luck.

Sincerely,

Dear 280:

Knowing your support for maintaining our Second Amendment rights, I wanted to update you on my work in Congress.

Like you I strongly believe in the protection of personal liberties, which include the right of law-abiding citizens to own firearms. While we all support taking steps to reduce gun violence, I do not believe this is best addressed through imposing increased regulations and restrictions upon law-abiding gun owners.

As your Congressman I have worked hard to protect Connecticut's gun owners' Second Amendment rights. In fact, I have recently voted in favor of several important proposals to do so, including:

* H.R. 5092 the “Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE) Modernization and Reform Act." This legislation will amend federal regulations on the suspension and revocation of gun sellers' licenses to distinguish between minor and serious violations, and sets penalties based on severity;
* H.R. 5013, the “Disaster Recovery Personal Protection Act," which will bar the seizure of lawfully possessed firearms during a major disaster -- ensuring that Second Amendment rights cannot be unilaterally suspended by local officials;
* S. 397, the "Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act," which will shield gun manufacturers from being sued when individuals misuse their products. You will be pleased to know that that important legislation has been signed into law by President Bush.
Rest assured, as your Congressman I will continue to support legislation that protects and preserves the rights of America's law-abiding gun owners.

Thanks for taking the time to read this update. Please stay in touch.

All the best,

Now THAT'S a CONGRESSMAN!

280,
You may want to check out Timothy Knibbs (Concerned Citizens Party) if you are still looking for some one to pull the lever for when you go into the booth on election day. He's pro-gun, and let me know such himself:)

I thought Schlesinger had a lot of good things to say in that debate. I was really surprised because up till now I hadn't heard a peep out of him. He came on like gangbusters. Personally I think he kicked both their Democratic butts ...

Last I knew he was way down in the polls though. We need to make a concerted effort to get Joe out and keep Neddie out too. Our only hope is Mr Schlesinger. He did gat an A from the NRA BTW...

I understand that the Concerned Citizens Party is actually the Connecticut branch of the Constitution Party. In the 2002 national election, the Constitution Party (including the Concerned Citizens Party) got a total of 130,322 votes for its Presidential candidate. John Kerry, the Democratic Party candidate, lost that election with 58,894,584 votes.

The results were not so cheery for the Concerned Citizens Party in Connecticut alone that year. The national loser Kerry got 847,666 votes there carried the state with 54% of votes. All of Connecticut's third parties together got 20,082 votes: I can't find a tally for the Concerned Citizens Party votes alone, presumably because they were too insignificant to be noticed by national media.

So if you plan to vote for the Concerned Citizens Party candidate in this upcoming election consider walking to your polling place no matter how far away it is. That way you will have had some good, physical exercise and your time won't have been entirely wasted.

If exercise is not want you want, why not consider voting for the Republican candidate and at least help the party that is less antagonistic to gun rights than the Democrats maintain some numbers in the Congress. It's not ideal but it's better than the alternatives.

I don't see there being any real chance of Schlessinger winning. Republicans have been giving him a couple percentage points the last couple months, but he is still SOL. The fact of the matter is, a majority of my party (I'm a registered Republican) seems to have a love affair with Lieberman. I don't see any Dems going Schlesinger, and most independents probably won't either. Essentially I see it as 1 defeat or the other. I figured I would go for the loss that I agree with most overall, and Knibbs seems to be it. Unfortunately, Wildey (of Wildey Arms fame) who was going to be running in the 5th district had a stroke- now that would have been a pleasing vote.

As an FYI, Knibbs personally responded to my email, and let me know about his support for the RKBA.

I hold nothing against anyone who votes Schlesinger- I was tempted to myself.
I have long ago decided not to vote Rell, FYI.

I hope you see my train of thought.

Yea, I hear what you're saying but I can't vote for either Joey or Neddie so I'll throw my support to Schlesinger, I wasn't sure till I saw the debate. He creamed them IMO. The Republicans in this state need to wake up I'd say. Here's the opportune time to get Lieberman out and they're not going to jump on it? Makes no sense. But this IS the state where I watched the Whalers get booed in their own rink when they scored because the crowd was too stoopid to realize that the "Mighty Ducks" on the ice were not the same "Mighty Ducks" in the Disney movie, so what can you expect?

For the record, I'm an independent, but I can tell who wants to take my guns and who doesn't. And if I wasn't truly impressed with Schlesinger's performance at the debate I wouldn't be saying so. And just because Lieberman is calling himself an independent now doesn't mean I'll be following my "party" lines and voting for him. He's smart though, cause I'd bet there's plenty of independents that will. See the Whalers story above. :scrutiny:

A followup from Rob...

Dear 280:

Thank you for your kind words. As your Congressman I strive to not
only represent your interests in Washington, but keep open the lines of
communication with my constituents in Connecticut. It is good to hear
that I am succeeding in this area.

Thanks again for your email. Please stay in touch.

All the best,

I'm with you, mp510. I'm in Larson's. The first district is one of the most Democrat voting in the state. Not much chance of ridding ourselves of him... :(

Hmm, tough choice. On rkba issues alone I'd vote for Johnson over Murphy any day. I don't know how they stand on anything else, but I have my assumptions. Good luck in Nov. :(

I do like that commercial that tells me that Murphy is taxing my dog. Good thing I don't have one.:neener:

It's true, the commercials HAVE been quite entertaining this season.

Did I ever mention I worked with Larson's shyster brother for a while? If they're anything alike, I wouldn't want anything to do with him.
