Everytime I go to a gun show I expect to find a nice mosin nagant m44/m38 at cheap price, I found a m91/30 for $120 thats fair but I do not want 50 inch rifle. I like carbines, m38 is better I think, m44 has a welded on bayonet.. But there so over priced at $250..( I can find them $150 - 190 on gb) I was at a gun show recent and saw M38 in like 8mm at $380.....

Take cash with you and count it out slowly to the seller as yo make your offer. M38s and M44s have come up a bit in price, but $250 is too high.

The bayonet on the M44 is not actually welded on.

If the rifle you saw was chambered in 8mm it wasn't an M38.

I've never seen a good deal on a Mosin at a gun show. You can get them for $100 or less locally I'm sure.

big 5 does not have guns on their website?

only 11 states with big 5.

Haggle? I think theres a sign posted no hangling with the gun dealers, all sales final........... :banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:

New hunter where did you get $75 for a m44 or m38 was it gb or a surplus site? I can not find a mosin nagant for $75? is it m91/30 or m44/m38 I do not want a 91/30 They are very long, and with a bayonet they are super long I do not want looong gun.

I can get m91/30 local at fair price but never have m38/m44 in stock, they just buy those cheap surplus and jack it up a little. Fair

i found a m44 about a year ago, stock was pretty rough so i ended up talking the guy into giving me it and a synthetic stock to fit it for 65. I think those stocks alone list around that price if I remember correctly lol

Good deal at a gun show? I havn't seen a good deal at a show for about two years now...
Me either, at least not from anybody sitting at a table. Private sales are where it's at. And I see less and less good deals lately.

Find a local FFL who will do transfers for a reasonable price, then find a deal online. Have him order the gun for you.

Better yet, spend $30 for a C&R FFL, then order one yourself.

i pay 79.00 for mine. Had to refinish the stock, but that was fun, 2 years ago after my wife stopped laughing becayse i had the gun aprat 2 hours after i bought it. now is great gun

I heard about C&R Before It is like $30-40 at atf website?? Please give link. I heard it take a few months to get your C&R then it will last 1-2 years? I think it will be worth it, could order m44/m38 then a m91/38 for $80 surplus price :) Now C&R works on guns over 40 years old?? or 50? and they can be shipped to your door correct? do you need to be 21 for a C&R??:confused::confused::confused::confused:

Gun shows are 95% ripoff these days. If you're interested in a quality milsurp go to the classifieds on the collector's forums online.

C&R's are great if you plan on buying a lot, but they come with red tape and government oversight. It's a federal firearms license after all. And you are waiving rights when you get one.

I would really just buy 1-2 guns that is it, guess its not worth it. Thanks I will look around gb for something. I did see a m44 sell for $180 great shape. But I didnt bid......:banghead:

If you saw something labeled M38 and it chambers 8mm, you were probably looking at a Turkish M38. A decent Mauser but not a Mosin.
I am still seeing M44's and M38's at Kansas gunshows for around $125-$150. I paid under $100 for all of mine (I started collecting about 10 years ago), including the Mosin M91/59 which, in my opinion, is the greatest mosin carbine made.
I still like how the M91/30 feels in my hands. The balance is much better than the carbines.
The ultimate mosin though, is the Finnish M39. If you are going to pay the bucks for a mosin, get a M39 - you should be able to find one under $300.

:what::what::what::what:

I wish I could find those prices. I saw some guy trying to sell a beat up mosin I forget if it was 91 m44 or m38 but he wanted $200++ he used it...............

sometimes I find m38/m44 sometimes I do not and if I do find them they are over priced and or like you said a different make, Turkish m38... I will probly use GB by the time I keep paying gun show fees I could pay the FFL fee :banghead::banghead::banghead::

I will find something on gb someday. Problem with m44 is I heard you gotta have the bayonet out when you shoot it helps off set the sightings?

The price of 91/30s is fairly stable nationwide, but M44s and M38s in particular vary a lot by region from what I can tell. M38s are generally less common than M44s, so they typically command a small premium.

$160 for an M44 and $190-200 for an M38 are pretty typical prices in my area, though I've seen them priced higher as well. I did see an M38 for $125 not long ago, but the stock had a pretty bad split in it and the bore had pretty heavy pitting, so I passed on it.

Gun shows are hit or miss. The huge variance in pricing is interesting to me in and of itself. One table will have NIB 2.25" Ruger SP101s for $415, while one directly across the aisle will have the exact same gun for $550.

But you do luck out now and then, so patience is most certainly a virtue. The other day I found a nice 2.5" S&W Model 66-1 .357 Magnum, pinned and recessed, for $430. FYI, those P&R'd S&W short barrel K Frame Magnums bring mid to high $500s or even lows $600s, in most places these days.
