My most unreliable new gun ever: Glock 17 Gen 4

There are not many PD's that want a manual safety. The whole point of the modern auto pistol (Glock/M&P) is their simple battery of arms.

I guess that's why they simply keep shooting themselves in the leg, foot, etc. :uhoh:

Apparently people are so simple anymore they can't remember to swipe the safety while drawing.

HexHead, you hit it on the head. I think Glocks are, in general, well designed, consistent, durable, reliable guns. I think there is a design flaw that needs correcting in the Gen 4 17, as I'm sure they will. The 9mm is over-sprung for target ammo.

My 17 Gen 4 is back in Smyrna, GA, and I expect that it will be a reliable gun when it is returned to me...fingers crossed.

That is clearly a training issue. If they cannot be taught to keep their finger off the trigger while reholstering, they certainly are not going to remember to deactivate an unnecessary manual safety. OIS statistics support this, that is why most LE handguns don't have a manual safety.

You aren't implying you have a link to this are you? It'd be a huge first for you on THR.

Well, if they can't remember these simple necessities when handling their weapon, how will they ever remember the law or even know it for that matter? :barf:

Maybe it's time for a new profession!

65% of US LE use Glock's, the rest are S&W various 3rdGEN/M&P's/Beretta 92/96D/G/FS and SIG's. That is clearly "most" not having manual safeties. As for links, Google it. The FBI would be a good place to start.

You "clearly" implied something about "officer involved shootings" statistics revealing something germane about manual safeties being dangerous.

The difficulty with manual safeties under high stress has been common knowledge for years. Why do you think Glock/M&P/Beretta 92/96D/G/SIG pistols are so popular with LE?

^^^you seem to be pointlessly arguing simply to fill some void in your life...

I'm tired of certain members just making s__t up as they go and cooking their sentences into something reading authoritatively when it has no grounding in reality.

If you are happy with such linguistic negligence, so be it. He takes alleged "market share" malarkey and transmuted it into a fake and link free "OIS statistics show. . ."

....so you're alleging that glock doesn't have the majority of the LE market in america, and isn't the most widely used pistols in the world?

been hiding in a cave the last 20 years?

Well, this crap has gone on about a page too far.

If you want to be boorish to each other, please do it via PM.

Or, better yet, learn to have a civilized debate without insulting the other party. Doing so might allow you to accomplish something through your discourse instead of simply increasing the amount of antagonistic noise in the world.

This is "The High Road," not 3rd grade recess. Speak like gentlemen.
