It is one sweet looking gun and your post was extremely well written with lots of good information. Nicely illustrated with great pic's too. Might look real nice next to my Ruger Blackhawks.........

Thanks. Yeah now I want a Blackhawk, just so many calibers to choose from.

I would have a hard time believing that there isn't any MIM in the SR1911...just off hand, I can't think of any 1911 under $1200-$1500 that doesn't have some MIM in it. Not that that's a bad thing ;)

The fit and finish on the E Series is just fine, not exceptional but acceptable. I think the idea of RIA fans spending more on a Ruger is questionable at best (and, if you've ever looked one over, the fit is exceptional save a wee bit of slide play).

Overall a nice looking pistol but cast vs. forged ought to factor in to the price equation somewhere.

My new E Series, paid $740, Sarge gets credit for the beautiful stocks, sorry for the lousy cell phone pic.

If this pistol is void of Ruger safety fetish then this 1911 just looks more and more appealing. I have always liked the 1911 its just a matter of cost and cost of shooting. Right now though I don't think I can resist the urge. Nice report.

The true test of this gun will be when it gets in the hands of actual shooters and not special testers and gun magazines.

I think "special testers" and "gun magazine" reviewers are "actual shooters". As useful as the internet can be, if what you mean by waiting on the feed-back of "actual shooters" means waiting around for the cyberspace experts to chime in with their "cast vs forged"; "to MIM or not MIM"; "internal vs external extractors" and, "What, it's not made in West Germany?" drama, well, no thanks. I'll read the reviews from writers I respect and handle the pistol in person (looking forward to doing so next week-end at the NRA Convention in Pittsburgh :)) before I decide whether to get the new Ruger or not.

I don't own a 1911!!!
So, I put a deposit on one! The Ruger SR1911!
My LGS put the price at $699.00 :uhoh:

No delivery date :cuss:

Lateck,

Yes, blued or tactical black..make them in .38 Super, too!

The ambi safety should only be plus for lefties. I feel your pain in that even though I am right handed. Ambi for the sake of it just gets in the way and is a general waste.

I disagree, I'm right handed but I try to do about 10-25% of my shooting left handed. IMHO any defensive hand gun should be easily usable, one hand only, either hand.

Not a show stopper, but I'd add an ambi safety to it if I decided to use it for anything other than range fun.

I'd be all over one in 9mm for cheaper shooting, I'm pretty well stocked with 1911s.

I have NOW decided that RUGER has their eye set on making ME completely broke.
I own so much Ruger right now, and I think I'm ok and won't need anymore for a while.............

....then they go off and pull a stunt like this. :)

Ok, order of acquisitions at this time....
.357 lcr
1911
And that'll be IT. I don't NEED another gun after the 1911. (for now)

I have yet to take this pistol to the range and put it through its paces

Great thread! Now come on buddy, get out there and shoot YOUR SR1911 and give us a range report with pics!! :)

i've got one on order here at the BX on base, i think i'm the first person in Abilene to be "on the list" for it. $630 no tax, hopefully it doesn't take a year.

"Looks like $630 from Impact Guns. Very nice. I'm still holding out for a blued model. Just don't care for all stainless 1911's."

At that price, tempting. (Esp. since I'd *prefer* stainless ;))

Less than the MSRP on a S&W 617, alsso on my list ... OTOH, the 617 (22LR) would be a lot cheaper to feed.

Many more, just didn't want to over-due this thread, plant was very impressive.

Anyway I could get those? I'm an engineering student and the manufacturing processes are really interesting to me.

Hope they release a [strike]Commander[/strike] CCO sized version.
Parkerized
With the same sights, or basic nightsights of similar shape/design.
Keep the checkering/serration pattern.
With cheap grips, I'll just change them for slimline aluminum anyway.
