As a Cristmas present, I was allowed to buy a 6" Colt Trooper Mk III. Last week, I finally was able to make it to the range. As usual when testing a new, to me, gun I took the Python to use as a control.
I fired five rounds from the Python, just to get it a little dirty, and then fired 5 more. All five were in the "X" or 10 ring of a 15 yard NRA Bulleye target. As usual, the gun did what I expected. All rounds were SA at 15 yards.
Since the Trooper was in such good condition and had not been fired too much, I just loaded 5 and fired. The first shot was an "X". The second round was also an "X", as was the third. Then I got sloppy and the last two were in the 10 ring.
The next twenty rounds were in the "X" or 10 ring. It looks like I found a gun that'll outshoot my Python. Of course, it's got 2" on the Python.
Then things went bad! The first round in DA was a loud "CLICK". After that, every second or third round was a dud, with both my reloads and factory ammo. The main spring was bad.
Damn, it's such a pretty thing and works great in SA. I went back to the dealer and explained the problem. Unbelievably, he had a spring in stock.
After the spring was replaced, it worked fine in DA.
I like the new toy and also like the serial #: J12345,
John
PS: I know a full serial number should not be revealed but it is sort of unique, .....to me, anyway,
John
