I need some help deciding between the CZ p-01 and the Sig p229. I've handled both and the ergos for each fit me well. It will primarily be used for the range and home defense. However, I may use it for ccw, if Wisconsin allows it in the future. I can get the CZ for around $579 and the Sig for $800- $850. Glocks and other similar pistols are great. (I own four) I'm just looking for something new. Thanks,

Evan

The CZ fits my hands better and I find it sexier, maybe I am biased. I would also use the saved money for a carry rig.

If you're going to carry, the P-01 is probably the better choice because it's lighter. For range and home defense I'd go with the P229. I've had both but still have the 229. The P-01 was a little too light for me. Fit my hand like a glove though. Here's my 229:

I would say the SIG. Something else worth checking out is the Browning Hi Power.

Both excellent choices, but since you're asking for opinions: Both are targeted at the exact same market segment - SA/DA, double-stack, hammer fired, de-cocker. I've handled and shot both, and they have flawless function. Both are as good as it gets. Subjectively, the CZ just feels better to me. I love Sigs too, but one of my very few complaints about them is that they always seem be a bit "chubbier" than they need to be, especially in the 9mm category. Between the CZ -P01 and the Sig P229 - my opinion is that they'd be equal in the role of range and home defense guns, but the lighter weight and over all slimness of the CZ will probably make it a better choice for concealed carry.

I've always noticed something about CZ and Sig.; Sigs feel like high-end guns, and their price reflects that fact. On the other hand, CZ isn't the most expensive gun around, it just feels like it.

That's all completely subjective opinion on my part though. The good part if it is that objectively, no matter which one you buy, you can't go wrong.

if you're considering the P-01 for potential CCW I would suggest looking at their PCR instead. It has a narrower dustcover and better sights IMO. I kind of regret getting my P-01 instead of the PCR for those reasons. It is still a fantastic gun. It is my nightstand gun with a mounted light. It is easily one of my most reliable guns, simple to clean, and accurate if i can do my part.

I have another prospect, H&K p30. I have one ,best feel of any of the guns I've held, very accurate , great sights, great workmanship.

Ten years ago I bought a CZ-75D PCR. My Sig P228, which is very similar to a P229 has sat in the safe ever since. Yes, the PCR is that good. Its more accurate (for me), fits me better, has a similar capacity and can double as a range gun, HD or carry piece. The Sig is a GREAT gun, the CZ is an extraordinary gun.

I own(ed) similar guns, a PCR and a P228. They are of nearly equal size and weight and in fact the PCR even fit in leather holsters made for the P228. The PCR fits my hand better and has a shorter stroke DA trigger and was therefore easier to shoot. I sold the SIG.

CZ hands down. Much cheaper and just as good. Sigs are nice, but not nicer than CZs, IMO.

My vote is for the Sig P229 in the "thinner" Elite Dark version with the AlumaGrips or the new P229 E2 "Enhanced Ergonomics" version.

However this is a biased opinion, due to the fact that I don't own any CZ pistols.

The CZ is a way better value. Sigs are some of the most overpriced pistols out there for what you get. OTOH they do represent a bit of an upgrade in styling from the CZ.

I like the PCR as well because I have a summary dislike of all rails on pistols.

between the CZ and Sig, defintiely CZ for me. i tried Sigs, and really wanted to like them, but just found that I shoot CZ's and Glocks (yes, i said Glock) way better. i think its because the CZ and Glocks sit a bit lower in my hands. i dunno, i'm no expert just someone that knows what works for me.

Sig is certainly no dog though. if it works for you, get it. ditto the CZ.

Hard to beat either... Is it an option to get both? :)

My $0.02, if you are flush right now, get the sig. If dollars are tighter, get the CZ.
