Thanks Big Bad.

Smokey,

So far the rifle is very accurate and consistent. By that I mean it shoots small groups and the groups are always in the same place. I have often seen shooters claim their rifle shoots "X" sized 3 shot groups. And proceed to show me a series of targets that have said groups. However, the groups are not always in the same place! target 1 has it at 12 o'clock, target 2 has it at 10 and on and on.

What has impressed me the most with this rifle is no matter how long the string of shots (at least up to 50) the group center has not shifted. From cold bore shot to #50 they are all headed to the same poa/poi.

I built mine from the ground up to be what it is, I bought the action, barrel and stock individually and put them together (kitchen table simple with the Savage). Doing it that way and including the straightjacket I have about
$1,100.00 in just the bare rifle. Just the rifle weighs in at 10 lbs. All up as in the photo its 13 lbs.

To me the question is "where else can you get a 10 lb. rifle that will shoot like this for $ 1,100.00?

I have a custom built 22-250 on a Mauser action with a Shillen #8 barrel that shoots that well. But it's a 12lb rifle w/o scope. Add a target scope and it's 14 lbs. I love to shoot it, but I hate to carry it :)

I'm hoping to get something sort of equal in terms of consistency (I know the groups will be bigger, I just want the same group center) in a lighter rifle. I may not achieve it on rifle #1 out of the pile, but I'll learn as I go and I'm hoping I'll get there eventually :)

Steven58's point is right on. It's not about just buying an all steel bull barrel. We know what that will do. It's about doing it another way :)

I'm to new at precision shooting to be able to choose a used precision rifle wisely. I'm sure other more experienced people could but I'd be concerned that I'd wind up with a gun that has little or no barrel life left and then I'd have to add new barrel to the cost...

John, could you show me some links to the kind of rifles you are talking about? In .308, 10 lbs bare or 13 with similar accessories and left handed if you don't mind
