She doesn't have to go to a "shooting resort" to get training. I imagine you have local trainers who can impart good skills. And the itinerant trainer business, where the trainer comes to your local range, has become more and more popular. Without travel expenses the total cost of training is much less. Where do you live? John Farnam travels extensively. So does Steve Silverman of F-R-I, just to name a few.

I'm currently going through a similiar battle with my wife. She wants to get her concealed carry permit, but doesn't want to carry it on her person or even in a purse. She wants to have it available just in the car where the kids can't get to it.

I told her no way, the minimum that I would be willing to go with, would be a purse for carrying. We'll see how it turns out, but as with most things in life, it is up to the person carrying it, to decide what works best for them.

Please keep us updated as to what she chooses to do.

Mode of carry

You mentioned she was concerned about accidentally shooting herself.

If she is carrying a revolver then she could carry with a chamber under the hammer empty.

If she is carrying a semi auto then she could carry it without one in the chamber.

The Covert Carrier style clip could be used with cutoffs. I just got mine delivered today and I am currently trying it out. It seems to work as advertised.

Just some thoughts. I skimmed pretty quickly so if I missed a similar response I apologize.

Quite frankly, I don't understand why you keep bringing this up. If I recall, this is at least the third thread where you mention your wife not wanting to carry a gun.

She doesn't want to carry it. Plain and simple.

She may need to enroll in some personal defense classes. Maybe hearing it from an objective third party will make more sense to her. :)

Easy.

I second Manlicher's advice (though he gave it tongue-in-cheek). If it were my wife, I'd flat out tell her that you're going to take out an insurance policy on her if she insists on taking on that job without carrying.

I realize I don't know you or your wife, so I won't try to psychoanylize her reluctance to carry. I do strongly question an employer who will assign a person to go into a potentially dangerous situation wearing the clothing you describe. Would you go into a potentially dangerous situation, wearing only a tank top, swim trunks, and flip-flops? No way to run, or fight, and no way to move away and blend in. If she is going to be INSIDE a van, then at the least she needs to be wearing socks and running shoes. If she is minimizing the clothing due to the heat, wearing shoes won't affect things that badly. Heck, she could even wear those strappy sandals that are made for hiking, etc. If she STAYS in the van, she can bring the arm in a gun bag, and just let it sit on the shelf, since inside the van means just that.
If the mode of dress is firm, then that sounds like she is being made a target, and is going to be outside the van. In that case, wherre is her commo? How is she hiding her radio?
this sounds just a little weak, from the standpoint of the employer.
