i have a chance at a good deal at a local shop i think. they have a new nef tracker 2 slug gun for $139 down from the regular $209. the gun is brand new but old stock, it is a nef made in gardner mass. the store is selling the gun as they said they've had it a few years. is this a good deal?, i have been looking for a slug gun. is this a good gun? thanks

A ton of people have these guns, very common. From what I've seen the price is usually around 225 or more. I'd buy it if you want a single shot, or save a few more bucks and get a used 870.

Yeah, they are good guns, reliable, only 4-5 moving parts. Really acurate, too, but I've only seen one in action so YMMV. Short on looks, long on performance. Only one shot though so it will teach you some patience to wait for the right shot.
i have one more question and if the answer is what i need then i'm going to get it in the morning. i am on a very tight budget and have never been able to see giving $10 or more for 5 sabot slugs. i get the remington sluggers $9.47 for 15 of them, can i shoot the regulars slugs in the tracker ll ? and if so will it shoot them accurate?, my shots at deer will be under 100yds most shots at 50 or less. thanks

If IT IS A SMOOTH BORE I assume it would shoot the Remington just fine.

Yes you can shoot them through a full rifle barrel. They usually shoot just as accurately as if through a smoothbore so it negates the point of having a rifled barrel. There are some deals in the sabot market, Federal has some all lead hi-shoks that I've seen for around 6 bucks for 5. Being a single shot shotgun, not useful for much other than hunting big game, I don't understand why spending about $30 a year on slugs is a deal breaker.
well i got good news then bad news, (GOOD NEWS) i went to get the gun today and the guy at the store said since the gun had been there awhile and the lighter guns don't sell good i could get it for $125otd WOW so i bought it. (BAD NEWS) i get it home load a slug in it and pull the trigger, the gun fires the breaks open and ejects the empty well i tried a second shell same thingi took it back and they gave me a refund. i liked it too, it handeled great if it just wasn't breaking down when shooting. the factory should have caught this. thanks

I hate to tell you but this but the fix for that is simple . I could be as simple as cleaning lube off the locking surfaces at the worst 3 minutes with a file and it would be fine

If its the version that uses the 10 gauge barrel blank for 12 gauge I would snag it,some of the newer ones are the standard weight barrel and kick like a mule.My old NEF Pardner II slug gun pre-dated the Ultra series but has been very accurate and reliable.
I have three NEF/Harrington Richardsom single shot shotguns, all work extremely well.
I would consider one of their slug guns, especially if one likes the challenge of hunting with but one shell in the gun.
Only real drawback I see is these guns are getting pretty pricey.
You can buy a rifled M500 Mossberg pump for what a lot of places are asking for the Tracker H&Rs now.
I have heard of a lot of people seeming to have problems with H&R single shots prematurely opening and I saw one probable reason at a shooting range not too long back.
Guy was shooting a .243 and high thumbing the action.
Almost every time he fired the gun, his thumb would hit the release lever at recoil and open the gun.
I know this because i watched him shoot to try and determine the problem.
Once we discussed how to change his grip and he became accustomed to the new grip, the problem disappeared.
It also seems like guys who shoot 1911s high thumb style are the ones that have this issue, their brain preset is putting their thumb in the same place as it is when they shoot their 45s.
I would consider one of their slug guns, especially if one likes the challenge of hunting with but one shell in the gun.

A hint to make those slug guns even more compact is to put an ATI collapsable stock/forearm on it. The l.o.p. can be adjusted to accommodate all those hunting clothes. Or to fit a kid better. It makes a handy little deer gun, very light, very accurate......but kicks even worse lol.
