I'm not surprised that you had difficulty shooting the Glock well. It seems to me, that every person I speak with about Glocks shoots them well, or shoots them poorly. I do not meet hardly any middle-of-the-roaders with Re: to Glocks!
The first time I fired a rented Glock 17 I nearly regurgitated my supper! I returned the pistol early, and went directly to the XD counter and bought an XD. Within 20 minutes, I was back in the range, nailing the target dead-on every time. Later, I tried Glock again because my daughter wanted one. So, now that I owned one, well, I had to master it. Master it I did! It took me time.
I did not experience that need to relearn how to point with 1911s, BHPs, XDs, Rugers, etc...only with Glock did I need to practice pointing. Why? The grip angle? I really don't know. Now I own a G17 and a G19C. I enjoy them both and shoot them both very well. But, to feel comfortable switching between 1911s and Glocks, I had to switch out my flat mainspring housings to arched mainspring housings on all of my 1911s. That tells me it must be the Glocks' grip angle.
I suggest you check out the Browning High Power. What a tremendous pistol to shoot! They're just fun! The other pistol that you might consider is a 1911 in 9MM! Lordy how sweet those must be to fire!!! Some day I shall own one myself. Until then, I will have to content myself with my .38 Super.
