In looking for a 9mm pistol, and I plan to shoot a lot of 22LR (I have a flinch to get rid of). I'd like to get a pistol that is convertible to 22LR and doesn't have a manual safety. I was planning on starting by looking at Glock.

Does anyone have other recommendations for guns and kits to look at?

I have a Glock G34 with an Advantage Arms upper. It shoots ok. Not match accurate, but I have other .22s to fill that role.

CZ has the Kadet kit and for 1911s there is Marvel, Ciener, and Kimber among the upper makers. I've seen Beretta uppers as well.

+1 to the Beretta 92 (F, D, G, whatever model you want...).

I've shot a 92F converted to 22LR, and it's really a nice piece, very fun. The one I had a chance to shoot had a silencer attached, too. So quiet... didn't need hearing protection or anything, was no louder than a co2 airgun.

The CZ-75 has a factory "Kadet" conversion kit available for about $250. Very reliable (for a .22. Always expect some problems with a .22) and very accurate. I highly reccomend the combo.

Another vote for the Kadet. It's so good it has dampened my enthusiasm to spend mega bucks on a classic Woodsman or Model 41.

Any of the CZ-75 variants except the RAMI will work the the .22 Kadet Kit. I have one and use it on both my CZ-75B and 75D PCR.

The CZ75b has a safety, and therefore a Kadet does, too.
There will always be problems with cheap ammo, and things to complain about.
But IMHO, accuracy from a Kadet is not one of them.
I pulled the ol switcheroo on many a new shooter, where I let them shoot my kadet, they turned around to look at something, and I swapped it to 9mm, loaded a mag, slammed it home, slid the slide forward, engaged the safety and said, "Hey, I got another mag full of .22 loaded for ya."
They usually don't catch on if you use low power handloads.

Then you ask if they would like to shoot some 9mm, and they're like "I'm not sure if I'm ready for that".
Then I'm like "Why?, you've been shooting it for 1/2 hour..."

Thank you all for your advice. The shop down the road has some CZ75BD pistols for $397+tax. I'm going to go look at them tomorrow.

Yet another vote for the Kadet. While it doesn't feed quite as reliably as my Buckmark, it's just as accurate and just as much fun to shoot.

Shotgun News had a great article a while back about the BHP and .22 conversion uppers... they tested Cenier's upper on an FN and an Argetinian upper on an FM detective model.

I'd go FN/Cenier, but the CZ/Kadet is a fine choice.

Kimber is a very good option as well, if you like single actions... it can even be had in .17 HM2 as well as .22 LR.
