Need Help Dressing up my EBR!

Hi guys,

I just got a del-ton m16a4 kit for my spike's lower, and will be putting it together soon. It's got all the basics, like a fixed stock, a2 handguards, and detachable carry handle. Any suggestions on the first thing i should upgrade it with? I already have optics that i'll use for long range work on coyotes and such.

Lose the handguards and either get the MOE handguards or a free float tube/rail (depending on what you want to use it for or add on later). Maybe a BUIS instead of the carry handle.

Thats all I'd really change.

Del-Ton uses (or last I knew, used) Cav Arms handguards, which are really well made and tight fitting. I've used MOE handguards and personally I prefer Cav Arms military-style handguards. I wouldn't be in a rush to ditch them.

As for BUIS, the stock carry handle is a better rear sight than most BUIS, so unless you need to remove it in order to mount a red dot, I would stay with the carry handle.

OP: assemble it and shoot it. I wouldn't change anything until you've shot it a good amount and identified something you actually dislike.
 
Well, it is my "2nd Amendment" gun. You can read what you want into that. So, I chose a 20" platform over the carbine since I get more power and a longer sight radius. I was thinking about going to one of those appleseed project meetings whenever i get the time and money. Anyway, I bought a basic rifle with plans to upgrade, so I am just brain storming on what to do with it.
 
Okay. Don't 'upgrade' anything. Buy a couple of cases of ammo, and hit the range. After you've put 2-3k rounds down the tube, you'll have a good idea of what needs to be upgraded and what does not.

I'd also recommend getting some professional training, as your schedule and budget allows.

Sounds like the gun is set up properly the way it is...buy ammo and mags and resist the urge to bling out your AR like a mall ninja.
 
yes, i do need a sling. After i put it together and shot it a little, I already know that the first thing I will need is a good trigger and (eventually) some free-float handguards. anybody know some good threads about ar triggers?
 
Second the sling. Otherwise I'd leave it stock, anything else you do will just add weight to it.
If you want to do a trigger I recommend Geiselle (about $180), or if you are on a budget the RRA national match 2-stage (around $100).
For free float handguards Daniel Defense seem to be popular but I'd leave the a2 ones on it unless you are going to start hanging stuff on the foreend.
 
A good cleaning rod, a good chamber brush and lug cleaning tool and a bunch of ammo.

I have a standard Bushmaster and, with the OEM sites (on handle), I can shoot grapefruit-size rocks non-stop at 100 yards. The only thing I put into that was a drop-in Timney 4# preset trigger for the AR-10 as that one has a heavier hammer than the one for the AR-15.
 
the only thing i really plan on putting on the end of it would be a bipod for long range work (eg. yotes, pasture pups, pumpkins). the quad rail looks cool for sure, but i might be okay with a tube. i have tried the rra trigger on rra guns; does anyone know how compatible they are with other receivers? i read in "the book of the ar-15" mag published by guns and ammo that they can sometimes require work to get them in.
