Hi,

I recently purchase my first rifle, i own several handguns and a couple of shotguns but not a rifle. I decided to get one for my bday comin up and i need help pickin out an optic for it. I got an ak-47 that im gonna start takin with me on my hog huntin trips and maybe some deer if i can get a decent sight, i k now its not a long range rifle but ive always wanted an ak and where we go huntin you cant really get a decent shot at any distances at all, alot of brush and shrub oaks down here in fla. So i need help i know absolutely nothing about rifle optics and i cant really spend more than $200. Thanks for all the help guys!:D

Assuming a solid mounting platform, I'd go with a red dot. The little Bushnell is pretty nice.

Another option is a 1-4 scope. I think Natchez has a couple brands of them on sale.

If you're going to look at a low power magnified optic, I'd stay clear of all of the cheap tacticool scopes like the Millett DMS1 with illumination. The glass sucks and they are heavy. The only exception might be the one that Primary Arms sells and that's only due to the customer service.

A great bang for the buck is the Weaver V3 1-3X. It exhibits a bit of "fish eye" on 1X, but that goes away at 1.5X. It's a helluva scope for the price. If you want a 4X, the Nikon African 1-4X is nice, as is the Leupold equivalent (although I think the Nikon is nicer). For the type of rifle that you're putting this on, the red dot is still going to be the most practical.
