Hello all

I am looking at purchasing a liberty FatBoy extreme safe and am wanting some feedback from you fine folks

so basically I’m interested in the good bad ugly anything you can tell me will be helpful

Thanks y’all!

One thing I noticed looking at their website is very little details on how the safes are built. Also, all the images are not actual photos of the safes.

To me these are vague statements on their website:

"an exterior featuring thick steel"
What does that mean? Steel thickness of the body? Steel thickness of the door?

"Liberty’s exclusive, ultra-strong locking bars protect against pry attacks"
I know these are 1/4" thick flat bars instead of round, but how are they supported on the door?

"90 minutes of certified fire protection at 1200º F"
Fire rating certified by who, Liberty? What material is used? I assume gypsum board.

These are a few things I would want to know if I was purchasing a safe. Liberty makes a beautiful product cosmetically and has a lot of storage features included with their safes. What's important to you is what matters and the value you see in the product to serve its purpose. Security would be that purpose for me and to get the most I could for the $.

I have seen the completely destroyed contents of two standard Fatboys that had been through a fire.

This is not to say the Fatboy Extreme is an inferior product (in its class) but rather an insight into what fire ratings really mean. I don’t know if this is why you are considering the product but many people put too much faith in one these device’s ability to protect the items inside of it in the event of a fire.

I cannot speak to the fire ratings. Mine did have a recall in the lock and when I called them, they sent me an upgraded lock and had a professional install it at my home at no cost.

my original lock never gave me any issues, but I took the upgrade. Very happy with my safe.

I recognize it for what it is...a strong box to slow down criminals. It’s not some impermeable vault. Mine weighs almost 900 lbs empty and is bolted down. But still accessible with the right tools in 15 minutes or so.

There's some good information on what to look for in how a safe is constructed. There is probably more money spent on marketing gun safes than most people realize. I agree that safes only buy time, but I would also want to buy as much time as I can afford to that is relative to the value of what I am protecting.

Be sure and secure to the floor as the door will tilt and hit the floor when opened due to the weight.
