Need a little help from the battle rifle experts.

In the way of battle rifles I currently own:
M1A standard.
AR15 (Rock River)
AK47 (Yugo)
Mosin Nagant (Russian 91/30)

and a Sig Sauer 556 (folding stock base model).

The reason the 556 is sperated a little bit is this..while it is "based" on a proven battle rifle it is not itself a proven battle rifle. Also while the rifle is nice and shoots well there is somethin that is nagging me a little.

Here is the input I am looking for.

With the "Battle Tested" motif I am going for with my rifles the 556 does not quite fit. Also I am missing some other Battle Tested must haves in my group.

My questions:

Do I sell the 556 and get an FAL? If so are the DSA STG58's good examples of these?

Do I sell the 556 and get an M1 carbine? If so what kind and where do I find good examples?

Do I sell the 556 and get an M1 Garand? If so where do I find?

Do I sell the 556 and set up another AR15? Current rock river is set up for close with Leupold prismatic 1x optic .

OR should I just keep the 556???

I feel kind of ashamed nit picking over my collection while there are others out there with only 1 rifle or less.

Thanks for you quick input and help...as you can see I am new to this forum but have been around for quite some time first on glock talk, then moved to Sig Forum where I still lurk. This is a very good comunity with a very kowledgeable group.

Sorry for the lengthy post...
God Bless,
Shane

No American collection would be complete without a Garand.

You should be able to get a service grade M1 through the CMP (Civilian Marksmanship Program). You may have to go to a recognized shoot to apply. The top grade rifles (correct grade) run $900+

It sounds like you are asking something that is 100% a matter of personal preference. The rest of us can't tell you what you want if that is the case. They are all fine rifles to have, I'm quite sure.

[sarcasm] OMG dood, battle rifles shoot bullets bigger than .223, so your wimpy ar and cheesy 556 are crushed to dust by real battle rifles[/sarcasm]

Thought we'd get that out of the way before someone tried to educate us in the way of semantics.

Also, does the *insert rifle, in this case the 556* need to be "proven" in a war for it to be reliable, accurate, ergonomic and easy to maintain? I say keep it, but I'm from the school of "Don't sell it 'cause you won't be able to get it back."

My vote is to sell nothing, buy a garand, then a M1 carbine.

Rule #1-Never sell off your weapons.
Rule #2-Aquire as many weapons as you want and can afford.

Get the Garand you won't be sorry.

I love my Garand and I love my Mosin M38. I'll be getting a 91/30 soon. I guess the Garand isn't really necessary since you already have the M1A. I agree with the others on not selling anything thats reliable, accurate, and ergonomic. Just save your pennies and buy what you want.

MTMilitiaman M1 Garand would be nice but you already got an M1A.

Since you already own the product improvement for the M1 Garand look into something equal or better than the M14 platform.

I like the Garand and it's the first rifle that I learned to shoot with, but I see no reason to own one at this time.

.

Actually, the Sig 556 uses the same operating system as the sig 55x series, so yes it is proven. Although its unproven in the fact they havent gone to war in 500 years :p

M1 Garand would be nice but you already got an M1A. I say get the FAL, then work on an HK roller lock clone.

+0.667

get all three, eventually. the Garand is actually a little bit nicer to shoot than the M1A.

don't sell anything, and if you are short on $$, then get a field grade garand from CMP, first ($495). then a PTR from CDNN ($899), then a DSA STG-58 FAL ($1100).

personally, if I HAD to ditch one, I'd ditch the AR, but that would probably be considered "un-American" by a lot of gun lovers.

I would definately pass on the carbine. remember, it's a pistol caliber, essentially.

Wow...thanks for all the input.

I will keep the 556. You all got me thinking about guns I had sold in the past and regretted. I will then keep my eyes open for the rifles on my list and be prepared to act when I come across them.

Thanks again for the help.

DSA FALs are a very fine representative of the FAL, you will do yourself well to get one.

Though, I must admit, that after shooting the M1A, I don't get the FAL out much.

I too am Garandless, like to change that some day.

Keep the 556, if battle tested is your thing then for sure buy a FAL and a Garand.

M-1 Garand. Please, DO NOT sell ANYTHING to get one however.
Add, a little or a lot, and don't subtract.

The ammo from the CMP is a steal right now, too. You'll be able to shoot it for basically half the cost of shooting your M1a (or5.56) right now.

But in a few years--who knows? The ammo gods may smile on us with cheap 5.56 and 7.62 NATO.

now don't tell me that, I want a FAL but....do i need another .308 if i'll only shoot one...........yeah guess i still want one...but come on man!
