Anyone have a NEF/H&R single shot and/or muzzleloader with the smokeless conversion?
If so, any pro's or con's?
Am currently shopping around for a "donor" firearm for the conversion.
Noticed that a couple of NEF's had a slight action mis-alignment when looking at the bottom.
Any quality differance between the older H&R's and the newer NEF's/H7R 1871's?

The current H&R/NEF 1871 company won't convert the former company receivers, and it may be due to quality and/or liability issues. And they won't convert a shotgun receiver into anything besides another shotgun or the .45 Long Colt/.410 rifled barrel. So, you may need to find a current production centerfire receiver for any conversion project. You should check with them for verification, since I'm not sure whether converting a muzzle loader to centerfire would create any FFL issues afterward.

Thanks dadman, I never heard of that conversion and I found it really interesting.
I also did a search over on the DougProboard and found a beautiful completed Remington 700 Pac-Nor smokeless barrel conversion that was pictured. It was about double the price of the Savage though.

The H&R shotgun receivers can be converted to a regular muzzle loader by the factory, but they will only rebarrel receivers made since 1987 with a serial # beginning with N or H. They also state that they will only convert SB2 Handi-Rifle receivers with their centerfire rifle barrels (except for the .45 long colt/.410. and muzzle loader barrel).

Why not check with SMI to see if they convert the older H&R shotgun receivers?
