I posted a while back about smoothing out my parnder's action and it not kicking out shells. Well, I fixed that all. Got super fine sandpaper and took the paint off the action bars, entire bolt, etc. I'll post pics and details of what I did to it if anyone cares....lol. I took it to the range after all this and it works flawlessly now. Except the action still sticks about halfway back. Probably the hammer cocking back. Is all this considered gunsmithing? If so, I know some guys at my local range that want there shotguns working better.

Glad you got it fixed. I've smoothed up 870s with a hard Arkansas hone stone or a crockstick, elbow grease and some lube.

Your hammer spring may be a trifle stout. Leave it be, it'll be fine in a few thousand rounds. Meanwhile, pump emphatically.....

A buddy got a super deal on an 870, and we shot it one day and it was not racking very smooth at all, kinda gritty. We got it to my buddy's house, disassembled it, and the tops and bottoms of the action bars looked like the Rocky Mountains. A little polishing with some 600 grit sandpaper wrapped around a block of wood and a fine Arkansas honing stone and it was smooth...like butta:). Most guns nowadays have a few rough edges that can easily be smoothed with a little elbow grease.

I read a post somewhere about a fella that purchased a NEF Pardner Slug Gun with a fully rifled barrel. Afer getting poo-pooed by his buddys for buying a cheap gun, it turned out to be the most accurate slug gun he owns.

Just my .02,
LeonCarr

Please post pics..interested to see this. Will get a new 870 soon.

Ok, I got my phone to take some pictures of everything I polished up. Not the best quality, but they show what I did. There are more pictures, but I can only do 4 at a time.

Thanks for the pics. Your procedure looks like mine on the action bars. Do use a straightedge to check the bars are straight and parallel. Some aren't.

well I've put over 1000 rounds through this thing in the year I've had it and she was still as tight as the day I got 'er.....:D

Ok, So now I got a new question. Looking to get a new stock and forearm and have it fit to me. I'm the only one that shoots it so might as well. One question....How do I get the bars off the forearm? Or will the new one come with them on it?

There is a round nut on the forend "tube" in the forearm with 2 notches in it. You can buy the tool to take it off or use a pair of needle nose pliers like I do. Just unscrew it and slide the forearm off the "tube ".

The shotgun should have come with a choke wrench/disassembly tool that will remove the nut.

Ok, so I got the bars off the forarm. Thanks, Mike and Hunter! I found more spots on the bars that needed taken care of and I wrapped some more of the sandpaper I'm using around a dowel and ran that through the tube the bars are on. Nice and shiny smooth. Pics will be up tommorow
