I'm in the position to buy a New Bullpup stock for the Ruger 10/22 after signing up and waiting for more than a month. The company is High Tower Armory, here is their sight and the OD Green stock I'm looking at:http://www.hightowerarmory.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=HTA9022ODG-

After a month of pros and cons I'm second guessing my second guessing! So I'm putting up a poll. Here are my pros and cons.

Pros:

It's a bullpup
Internet (youtube, happy reviews) accounts say it's well made and works great.
It looks very close to a PS90
It shoots cheap .22LR, not the much more expensive 5.7x28.
Made in the U.S.A.
Damn it's cool.

Cons

It's a bullpup
It costs $255 after paying for shipping.
It looks to be a big pain to take apart for cleaning.
No iron sights.
The stock costs more than the 10/22 I will put inside of it.

So what would you do?

I'd buy a Chote or Butler Creek folder for around $100 bucks and add a scope to the gun.
They will fit in many ATV bags and boxes, are quick to manipulate in a truck cab a nd very quick and solid to deploy.
Mine is a Chote but the BC models look about the same.

While the PS90 has its charms, its stock is not much to emulate IMHO.

Con: Bullpup triggers are terrible, bullpup conversion triggers are generally worse!

Another con would be is it that is not left handed friendly.
I recently finished this 10/22 project. Not as compact as the bull pup mentioned but it comes in at 31" OAL including suppressor with the stock collapsed.

Bullpul 10/22 conversions = Two words to me
Mall
Ninja.

All I see there is $250 spent to un-accurize your 10/22 via a typical bullpup trigger.
I'm not big into conversions though, if it makes you happy, hell yea.

Holy cow that is expensive!

I shoot left-handed too often to use that.

Does form follow function for you? If not, get it if you like it. If it does, will that stock enhance the function of your firearm?

Buy it! That's as cool as the other side of the pillow!

I had to vote yes since your poll option was so compelling. :D

Seriously though, if you have the money and don't mind turning the 10/22 into a shorter range fun gun, go for it. Especially if you already own a PS90 and want a less expensive platform for practicing.

I agree -- you knew what it cost. If you thought it was "expensive" then why waste everyone's time here? Suck it up and follow through on your commitments. That's the high road.

+1 for the Butler Creek stock. I have one on a 10/22 and will add another soon. They are perfect for my ATV and rock solid with opened. I am very pleased. Not as cool as the bullpup, but very functional.

Go for it.

buddy of mine bought the red jacket zk22 stock (very similar) and likes is. I shot it and here is my take: ergonomics aren't as good as a regular rifle, but it still brings a smile to my face to hold and fire it, and I"m a lever gun guy who is in no way into the mall ninja thing, but the gun is so mall and light that it's just hard not to like it. Trigger is not very good, and that's after I worked his trigger down to a crisp 2.5lbs wit no overtravel and minimal pretravel. The bullpup trigger linkage just sucks. Accuracy was the same as a regular 10/22. And you can always sell it for a significant chunk of your money back if you don't like it. It's a toy, noting else, and not an improvement over a stock stock (har!) But it's a fun toy.......

It's definitely an interesting looking 10/22. That stock costs way to much for me to ever consider. I could see maybe dropping that much on a stock if I was putting together a 10/22 for competition, but not just so I can have a bullpup.

I agree, you're right. It is very expensive though for what it is, but I did allocate money for this purchase. They're a U.S. company and I don't mind supporting them! That is a BIG PRO I had forgotten. It is nice to see that not everyone thinks it's worthless. At this time the amount of don't buys are more than the buy it. Oh well, I never feel bad for doing the right thing! I just ordered about 5 minutes ago so I will come back to this thread with an update when I get some fun time with it! Thanks Gents!

FYI, the butler creek folding stock is heavy. Unnessisarily so. Great as a concept, kinda iffy in execution. Don't get me wrong, it's a solid piece of hardware. Works great in my experience. But it will add noticable weight.

Cool. You can't please everybody, but it's worth doing what you want sometimes. I'm guilty of not marching in step with the gun owning populace from time to time, too. :D

Only two "custom" stocks I have for my ruger 10/22's are the archangel nomad and the m1 Carbine stock. I like the latter the best. I've always like the ergonomics of the M1 carbine and how it pointed.

Ya know sometimes shooting, for me , is less about pure accuracy, practicality etc. sometimes it's about plain ole' playing cowboy or James Bond. Sometimes it's just about the fun. I say give it a try. I have two very custom very accurate normal 10/22s but this just looks damn fun. Enjoy.

A few problems with this

1. This is the difference between happy happy fun time and the possibility of becoming someones girlfriend in federal prison. Does it meet NFA guidelines of 26" overall length? It sure doesn't look like it. I won't screw around with my freedom.

2. Where was the stock originally made? My guess China, not the U.S. reguardless of it being remanufactured here.

3. ABS plastic is a very general statement isn't it? The 90/22 is 40 parts glass filled polymer, Magpul pmags are 30. Who knows what the Chinese ABS is?

4. This started life as a cheap airsoft gun. The fact that it costs under $120 says extremely cheap airsoft as they are like everything else. You do usually get what you pay for. Want to guess what the HTA 90/22 started out as?

5. I'm not sure if I want to buy gun parts from a ebay jewelry storefront. I'm not saying it's totally worthless. Muzzlelite stocks aren't totally worthless either, but most consider them inferior.

Believe me, I've done enough redneck engineering to last everyone on this forum a thousand years. In my Matco toolbox I have a drawer labeled "specialty tools". Guess what's inside? The difference is I'll do the world a solid and not try to sell them to unsuspecting folks that just don't know any better.

I did do my research before my purchase. I'm not defending them because of my purchase, I did have a cons section in the first post. I would have added "Not very well made" if I had found that to be the general consensus or if my research had come to this conclusion.

The HTA is by far the best built and best looking 10/22 bullpup stock to hit the market, including the half hearted attempt by Red Jacket. Their ZK-22 stocks have many complaints. The major one is the charging handle eating through the plastic it rides on. It also costs $299. I wonder what it would cost if they had never been on TV? Or if I ever would have found their site? I almost bought one, thank the good Lord for the internet and the smarts to research before you buy!

I can tell from the above post, you made your mind up about this long ago. at least as long ago as you "signed up" glad your choice is made in america.
Hope it does everything you want it to!

I can't judge the OP, because I've looked at that Nomad G36-style stock for the 10/22 a time or two and thought it was pretty cool!
