Our Mossberg 590A1 shotguns were loaded lethally. We carried both 00buck and 1oz. slugs, with later policy to load the 00buck for carry in the mag tube, with the slugs carried to be selected as necessary/if required. Originally, it was up to the individual LEO as to what to load (issued buck/slugs) in the carried shotgun but an administrator decided a standardized policy was needed.
Less lethal rounds were usually carried/available via 37mm launchers, preventing anyone from using the lethal ammo when less-lethal-ammo was intended.

I was unaware of the internal Remarms history and politics of the current REMARMS management. Thanks for the background. Business-wise, I'm mainly disappointed in the lack of spare parts being supplied. I'd think parts would be an additional revenue market, but I admittedly don't know why or what's involved as to why new parts aren't flooding the internet parts suppliers are why parts are not offered directly on Remarms' website.
