^ cause only a loonatic (or Hornady) would lop a couple mms off a functional case, improve it, and make the best thing since.....well the last best thing!:D

Slightly shortening a 280AI would actually be a pretty neat way to solve the mag length problem, stick with the same bolt face, and hopefully not have issues with the feed rails, while still providing enough case capacity to deliver close to 7mag performance.....also cost a ton in custom reamers and dies...unless i do what im doing for my 250 and use generic hornady neck sizers and seaters

As much as i actually like that idea, i think the rounds that are right now on the keep list are the 7x57/x57AI, 6.5/.284, .284, .260AI, and the .35WAI....again im trying to stick with what shaw chambers, so theres some stuff like the 9.3x62, which i think would rock in this gun, that i cant do.

If i remember ill probably call the tomorrow to check on cost and time line, right now fixing the ac in the family car has priority, but I'm hoping to move forward soon.
Heard that, good luck with the a/c man!

Hah! Yeah, think ill be selling my shotgun to pay for the ac....... Mostly cause id rather spend my spare cash on this, go figgure:confused:

Just got off the phone with the folks at er shaw, looks like its gonna be 400ish to have the barrel installed and shipled back, turn around is 3-5months which is what i remeber from last time. Ill probably go ahead and send it out later this week if i find time....now to pick a caliber....hardest part

So heres what ive got pretty well set. Its gonna be a light/middle weight build.
barrels gonna be lightweight sporter @ 24".
The stocks probably gonna be a "modern sporter" and come from boyds or richards, ill reduce what weight i can comfortably.
Ill probably install a timney trigger down the road some.
probably have the scope mounts installed while its there, less chance of screw ups.

So this may be too late but I know of this one fella that is enjoying his .250 ai, a person could use that case with a variety of calibers and probably make your coal requirements with a 6.5 or 7 mm you could have a nice big brother to the .250 (of course I favor the 6.5 lol).

Yeah little too late, sent you the action off friday. I decided to go with the 7x57AI, as cases are readily available, and easily formed from 06(got a couple 500of those already). Dies are about 100bucks unless i luck across a used set in the next 4-5 months. Other than that i already stock the necessary components.

I also have dreams of building a family of model sevens in .250, 6.5cm (or 6.5-250AI), or the 7mm ihma, and perhaps a .300savage ai, also known as the 30TC....projects for another time tho lol.
