VERY nice animal! One of these days I plan on doing some elk hunting.....one of these days.....
Whats your gun chambered for? looks like a long action...barrel contour looks heavier than my dads gun also.

Actually it's my grandsons rifle, 6.5 creedmore. too heavy for too me carry around. it was his first elk.

So this is the rifle my dad decided he wanted to use for his long distance shooting. I picked it up for my FFL buddy yesterday I'm going to go register it on Wednesday so hopefully we'll get a chance to shoot it soon.

My initial impressions of this rifle are excellent. As a note the Premiers are 100% US made.

Fit and finish is really good, the action operates smoothly, and the amalgamation of other designs is both interesting and functional.
Most of the design is Remington 700 with normal custom tweaks, like a side bolt release and an aftermarket trigger (The premiers come with a trigger tech primary). They also use a coned breach Ala Winchester 70, and a Savage style replaceable bolt head that also includes the blast baffle that seals the raceways.
There's very little slop in the action while running the bolt and the bolt lift is lighter than my Christensen's.
The internal design of Bergara's bolts differs from a 700. The threads holding the shroud on are different (finer) and the firing pins are designed differently.
The Cerakote is applied evenly and it looks like they use a rougher substrate than Christensen does. The muzzle and thread protector are Cerakoted as one piece so underneath the thread protector there's bare stainless.

If there's one thing that gave me a pause it's the stock, it feels a little strange having an injection molded stock on a $1,400 gun.
That said the stock is both stiff and extremely well executed. Cheek riser adjustments are easy and positive, and the length of pull, while not push-button easy, is made simpler due to the cutouts in the spacers, Three of which come with the gun.
Another interesting thing I found is that the bolt handle is not threaded, it is one piece and has the oversized tactical knob (or if it is threaded I can't find a seam).

I'm hoping to pick up the rest of the parts to assemble a gun on Monday has my FFL buddy forgot to bring them with him when he brought the gun to town yesterday. I might go out there this afternoon though just to get out of the house for a while.
Rounding out the parts list are.....
A Talley 20moa 8-40 screw (as opposed to a 700 action with 6-48) 700 short action rail.
Sig 30mm medium rings.
Dad also chose my Sightron S-tac 3-16x42 as the scope he wanted on it.
The muzzle brake is going to be a VG6 Gamma 6.5.
I ordered him a set of electronic earmuffs to go with his new noisemaker also.......

I'll update this after I get the whole thing assembling we get out and shoot it.
I'm also looking forward to comparing it directly to my Christensen Mesa Long Range as they're very similar in fit and function.

I'll add some pictures in a little bit. I have to sit down at my computer, or steal my phone back from my son......

Beautiful looking rifle. Please hurry up and shoot it it, the suspense is killing me!!:)

Our first outing was limited to really just sandblasting my 10" plate lol
Id have more pictures and decent video to post....if i hadnt left pretty much everything at home.....
From watching him shoot tho, im not expecting any real surprises. There were 3 different loads in the 50rnds he fired (velocities were all right around 2700 tho), and you could see the poi shift when he grabbed a random 129sst, but all were still on the plate with a good shot.

Ill try get out an do some minimal load testing in the next week or two.
I only have 1lb of Rl-17 left, and 2 lbs of varget would be the next closest useable powder, so im going to set dads gun up with an acceptable load, and save the 17 for his creedmoor.
Ill probably just quit shooting mine for now, tho i will need to load some 7-08 for my loaner hunting gun.

Anyway, yeah ill try get more info and pictures next time I, or we, are out.

Good info, thanx. Mine will be trying out some Browning 129 gr BXR, soon as I get my Arken SH4 mounted.
Let us know what you think about that Arken, im waffling between getting one of those for my heavy CM, or getting a Tract Toric for my Ridgeline.

Yeah I'm not a real huge fan either, beats getting chafes in blisters when wearing boots but otherwise I'll just run around in slippers
I need to get me a Hawaiian approved pair of slippers lol, I've only had the cheap $4 foam kind. Warn them a bunch in my teens when I worked at a exotic car dealer washing and detailing.

Will do. Still waiting for the mount, hopefully tomorrow, but USPS is iffy now. Actually I had been thinking about a Vortex Venom in 5-25x56 before I finished my research. Ended up with what I dearly hope is a better scope at less expense. Plus got the precision pack for free.

One of these days I'm going to try those hammer 6.5 bullets, I should make up a few mins lead alternatives for hunting. At least Lord Cuomo will be gone he was wanting to push lead free in N.Y. Think they would be good for you out there and you can reach out to test the bc, now to just get powder and primers lol.

Ive looked at the hammers a few times, but havent "pulled the trigger" on them yet. Theres really nothing tough enough to warrant a mono out here, but if i get good experiences with the .284120 TTSX a fellow forumite gave me I may have to try some of the others.

I like how the hammers open, they pretty much shread the tip petals and the base stays together.

You mean US assembled right? The barrel is made in Spain, as is the stock, and the trigger is made in Canada. Some of the other small parts are probably made in Spain too. Not that any of this matters when you're shooting it and bullets are going where they're intended.
Thats true, i forget to differentiate.
