The store opened for business yesterday. Decided to drive by there since I live about 7 minutes away and check out the crowds/traffic/parking. Surprisingly it wasn't too bad (being the middle of a work day - my day off), so I parked and went in.

Very nice store with a good selection of firearms, mostly hunting/sporting types but with the occasional HD shotgun thrown in. I handled an HK91 that they had on the used racks. Price was $2999 which I guess would be about average for this gun, I'm guessing, but way too rich for my blood. Saw a few M1911A1's in the handgun case that looked verey nice. A Colt World War I repro went for $899. Don't know if that was high, low, or average for that particular model.

I guess it remains to be seen whether other local outfits such as Sportsman's Warehouse will lose any business to Cabela's. Haven't done any real comparisons but at a glance their prices seem roughly comparable on firearms.

Any other Phoenix folks make it over there yet?

My daughter had to call just to rub it in. I'm still waiting for one in this area.

I plan on dropping in next time I'm up in Phoenix.

Cabelas and Bass Pro shops are nice to walk around to see the mounts, aquariums and other displays. I think I've purchased mostly hunting clothes from Cabelas.

Locally, I haven't noticed that the Sportsman's Warehouse parking lots are any emptier. I HAVE noticed, though, that the Cabela's parking lot isn't as full as all the pre-opening hoopla lead us to believe it would be.

went at 9:15 am yesterday. was impressed but not enough to fork out any cash, will keep with my tried and trued old gun haunts but i did enjoy see that $58,000.00 beretta in the library.....

i'll have to check it out next time i'm in Phoenix. i usually try to avoid Phoenix as much as possible, but this will be worth my time.

saw that same hk91 last night. seems to be brand new. i didn't realize that h&k shipped their firearms with cosmoline but the bore and action had a pretty thick coat of what looked to be cosmoline to me. hopefully they will have a larger selection of used guns in coming months. nonetheless, i was impressed and will most likely lose countless hours to that store.

What a disapointment. I drove 35 out to it, only to find a football area sized parking lot completely full and overflowing into the empty lot across the street. There was way to many people there. Anyways, it wasn't too bad inside (aside from the crowd), but is that their normal prices? $18 for a box of Hornady in 204 that I can get at sportsmans for $13.50.....and Sportsmans is about 15 miles closer. :uhoh:

I might go bck there in few months, but outside of that $58k Beretta, there wan't too much they had that I can't get elsewhere....but its nice to have the option.

oh, and they had a decent gun collection. I wonder if that used section will stay stock or if its just for the grand opening.....do they take trades all the time?

Did any of you notice whether or not the place was "posted?" Sportsman's allows both concealed and open carry. What about our new Cabela's?

sportsman in Reno

has cool EBR's, and pistols too. Not posted afaik.

I was trying out holsters for my ccw and they asked me to unload it and not to reload untill I was out side..never questioned whether I had a permit.

(of course I had unloaded before trying out different holster)

I stopped by on saturday afternoon and took
a look around.I found that they carry Buffalo
bore and Black hills defensive handgun ammo.
Gun prices seemed to hit hit and and miss,
depending on what you were looking for.I did
see a lack of 2 3/4" 12 gauge defense rounds,
it was almost all 3" magnums.Overall it was
pretty good,i'll go back after in a couple
weeks.

Love Sportsman's Warehouse - lol, I am drinking coffee from a SW coffe mug right now!
I drop lots of my disposable cash down at the new SW here in Tucson/Marana, great store, great prices, really good people working there.
The only sign on this store is LONG GUNS must be unloaded prior to entry, but handguns must be unloaded outside ONLY if you are going to try them in a holster. Works for me.

I buy a lot of stuff from Cabelas through the mail. So the next time I'm in Phoenix, I'll stop by. I hope that they are better than the Sportsman Warehouse we have in Tucson. I've found them to be way high on most handguns and ammo. I end up buying my ammo in bulk on the Internet and my handguns from GunBroker, AuctionArms or the forums.

Best regards.

Been fortunate to visit every Cabela's but two....an employee at one store told me that on most weekends his store would do $150,000-$200,000. Proves that "if you build it they will come".

Can't pull those kind of numbers without it affecting the competition. Poorly run local gun shops will close their doors and better stores will thrive.

Thank God they built that think out in the middle of nowhere. :D

I visited the Sportsman's Warehouse in Mesa to look an handguns and was surprised that they don't offer LEO discounts. I have never been to a gun shop that didn't offer one. They also wanted $480 for a S&W 642  Thanks but no thanks, I'll support the smaller shops that support law enforcement. They also walk you to the cash register if you are buying a firearm. I guess they don't trust you with an unloaded gun that they sell you.

Were you there on a Sunday? Every time I've been there other than a Sunday, the place is packed. On a Sunday, everything in Utah county is dead.

I paid $339.00 before tax for my 642 at the
north Phx sportsman warehouse.Maybe
that store mispriced that gun.
