New Cabela's in Phoenix AZ

That new Cabelas had my Hornady .204 ammo for $17.99 a box. Sportsmans is $13.50, and most places that are "overpriced" and make me feel like I am getting ripped off are around $16.xx.

I live just a few miles from it, and went there this afternoon, just browsing. It was quite a lot of fun, especially the aquarium that had native or stocked fish to this area, as well as the mounted animals in their natural appearance. With regard specifically to the firearms, they had quite a large selection of rifles and shotguns, but only fair on the handguns. Cabela's has never advertised themselves as a discount retailer or having the cheapest prices around. The cheapest ammo without going online is still at Wal-Mart ... if you can find anyone at the sporting goods counter.

BTW, I have a Cabela's Club Visa card. ;)

I find it interesting, where they are building these stores.

I read an article in the Wall Street Journal years ago, I am pretty sure it was about Cabellas. It discussed the fact that (at that time, I guess) they built their stores in out of the way locations. Places where they would be the big draw. As a result of their building a store there the local economy would boom: hotels and restraunts would spring up around the Cabellas. They talked about people actually going on a vacation just to visit the store. People driving hundreds of miles to go to one etc.

I have been to the Cabellas in Wheeling WV quite a few times. That is sort of how that location went. Wheeling is a dying or dead steel town. They built that store on I-70 just out of town. It has it's own freeway off ramp. Every time I have been there it has been crowded to packed. License plates from all over the place. Other businesses are starting to be built on the same off-ramp.................

I found the idea of building these stores in out of the way places interesting and thought it was a good idea. I think they are making a mistake in building a lot of these stores and putting them in large metro areas. There will no longer be any novelty in them.
But, they probably know more about business than I do.
