I picked up my new (to me) Daewoo on thursday and took it to the range on sunday. These are my thought on this pistol.

The Daewoo seems to be of fairly conventional constuction, lightweight alloy frame, blued steel slide, 4" stainless barrel, 13 rd double column magazine. The trigger operates as a standard Da/Sa or it can be put in "fast action mode" which I will describe later. The safty is a small lever on the frame, Up for safe , Down for fire (cocked and locked is posible ) There is a firing pin block activated by the trigger. The frame remides me of a slightly smaller beretta 92 with a better contour on the backstrap. The slide is similar to Smith and Wesson. Machining seem to be of good quality on the frame, slide and most small parts, but the exception is the barrel. The bore shows alot of machining marks and the sides and botom of the outside of the chamber area were a little rough.

Range Report: After a thorough cleaning I took it to the range. All together I fired about 175 rounds through it. I shot winchester value pack ball, and some winchester white box hollow points. the pistol functioned pefectly with no malfunction whatsoever. I do not have a trigger pull scale, but the trigger seemed a little heavy in both single and double action I would guess about 13 in double action ( similar to stock on my ruger Sp101) Single is probably about six lb ( similar to my FEG PA63). The unique feature of this pistol is the Fast action mode. To activate this, you cock the hammer or rack the slide, then you simply push the hammer forward. The trigger moves forward also and the hammer looks like it is un cocked. Then, instead of a heavy double action trigger pull, the trigger cocks the hammer with about 1 lb of force, and then leaves you in single action mode again. I am not completely used to this yet, but It is a great alternative to have available. It alows, basically "cocked and locked" carry with the hammer down.

Accuracy disclaimer: I am Not the best pistol shot! I used a Ruger mark II for a refence group, and the extremely gusty winds and lack of a bench made tight groups hard.

After that discalimer, I can report that I was satisfied with the accuracy of this pistol, considering its millitary service pistol origins. My best groups were right in the 3-4 in range kneeling at 20 yard with a couple of called flyers (caused by wind gusts ) messing op the groups. for reference my group with the mark II ( my most accurate hand gun) was about 2.5-3 in, also at 20 yard kneeling.

Overall I am quite pleased with this pistol. my only concern is the poor surface inside the bore, but I am not worried because it shot fine. I will soon order some 15 rd S&W magazines, and if anyone has advice on smoothing out the bore I may try that, otherwise I am quite pleased with my new little Korean friend.
