My new DSA STG58 Carbine.

Took right around 12 weeks for delivery.

Type II Receiver, 18 inch barrel, Steyr Short Flash Hider.

$945 paid direct to DSA
$25 Shipping
$95 to Pawn Shop to handle the transfer
$1,065 Total Cost

I could probably have found someone to do the transfer for just $25, but it was not worth my time driving all around town trying to find that FFL. This deal was fair to me.

The bipod and metal handguard will be replaced with a synthetic handguard only, soon. It's a little heavy the way it is and the bipod doesn't seem that practical to me.

I can't wait to shoot it!

How many rounds should it take to break in?

$7 used Steyr FAL Mags that DSA sells

Actually, I was surprised at how good the used mag it came with was. It could have been brand new for all I could tell.

Thanks. DSA still has more, but the STG58 Austrian parts kits are running low, from what I here.

Mine's coming soon hopefully. They just called my shop to confirm the credit card number. The owner says that DSA generally does that just prior to shipping. Good thing too, I feel a little silly having purchased battlepacks of ammo in a caliber I don't have a single firearm in... :)

That's right. Well welcome to the family .45! I just ordered two 30 round magazines and a DSA scope mount for mine.

I haven't shot it yet, but I did take off the bipod off already.

It feels way lighter without the bipod.

My Stg-58 Rifle showed up and I shot it the other day. I ran a couple of mags of South African through it, and it was boring in it's reliability. Fit and finish is very nice, only mark on it was a brass kiss on the receiver where it had been test fired after assembly. The barrel and bore were pristine. I couldn't tell that it had ever been shot before. It's a hefty rifle, and I found the recoil very controllable. As a point of comparison I found it more pleasant to shoot than my M1 Garand.

I can't speak to it's intrinsic accuracy, because I'm not what I would consider a very good rifleman. The purchase of this FAL, along with some upcoming classes, is part of my plan to overcome that deficiency.

Wow, that's a high price for a few minutes of paperwork, a call to NICs and a log in their bound book.

I know. The first place I tried wanted to charge me full retail plus sales tax.

It was not worth my time shopping around to find someone to do it for $70 less.

Slvr Surfr,

What kind of folding stock do you have there on your FAL? Also, what kind of sling and sling attachment is that?

Is your FH the factory STG hider?

Thanks - it looks great.

308 Cal. New U.S. produced 16.25", 18" Barrel

I just noticed on the DSA website that they are now advertising new US made barrels on the STG58's, with no change to the MSRP. Which means that they are really running low on parts now, and it is an even better deal now with a new barrel at the same price.

That depends on the barrel that they are giving you instead. I got an STG58 kit from them a few years back and it had a brand new Austrian barrel on it.

It really was a crying shame to see such a pristine rifle with it's heart cut out by a torch. :(

Good question. I assumed it would be the same barrel that they use for the SA58 DSA FAL.

The sling I put on was a spectre universal 2 point sling. I dont use the folding stock while the rifle is slung. As .45 said the rest of rifle is stock. It doesnt need much else really. :D

Gang,

I have some good news and some bad news as to future availability of our STG rifles. As I have reported previously the STG58s were left of the current catalogs because we were unsure if DSA's supply of parts would allow continued production of rifles. Marc Galli called me today and confirmed that as of today there are no more original Steyr barrels left. As you all know the ATF now requires that all barrels be destroyed in any kits coming into the country. However, he also had some very good news to pass along. For some time DSA has had a large quantity of STG-58 kits tied up in customs. DSA has fought hard to get them released with barrels, at great legal expense. However, the battle has been lost and DSA had no choice but to destroy the barrels. The good news is that the kits have now been released from customs. As a result DSA will continue to do STG rifles, and at no additional cost will include the same high quality U.S. made barrel featured on our SA58 rifles! This means customers can continue to order STG-58s for the foreseeable future. The STG series continues to be a tremendous value, offering a high quality FAL built from excellent or new condition components at a very reasonable price. DSA is pleased to be able to continue offering such rifles to customers who desire the classic STG look and value.

Thank you!

John Howard

So DSA is using the new SA58 barrels on the STG58's at the same price.
I think that is a good deal. Almost wish I had waited.
