I've asked this question in many venues, never got a satisfactory (i.e. authoritative) answer: When changing the stock on a Remington 1100 Special Field with the short forend and three-shot magazine, I think it's safe to assume that a replacement synthetic buttstock will fit my action in place of the straight stock factory wood. But the important question is: can the replacement forend be cut down to fit the shorter than normal magazine tube of the special field? I would welcome any response from someone who has actually done this, or seen it done first hand. Speculation won't do me much good here. I love my SF, but there are times you don't want to subject a nice walnut stock to the elements.

I dare say it can be done, but it might be pretty complicated and/or difficult. Or, it may be dirt simple. I don't know whether the back or the front of the forend, or both, would need to be cut and recieve some modification. I would take the wood forend to a gun store and look at the composite models in the blister packs and figure out what you can do.
