New GLOCK question

I just picked up a used but like new G19. it has the letters MPBPD engraved in the slide. Any idea what this means? I googled MPBPD and it didnt turn up any police departments and if it was intended to be issued it certainly never was because the finish is still perfect.

Also, I heard something about not being able to shoot lead or something thru it, because of the rifling; does this mean I can't shoot WWB FMJ thru it?
 
congrats on the new handgun great choice, the 19 is my favorite glock model out there.

lead ammo is not advised in glocks, kahrs, and h&k because they have polygonal rifled barrels instead of the coventional rifled barrels in most other handguns. the barrels are inherintly more accurate, but they cause lead fouling to occur at a higher rate in a polygoal rifled barrel than the conventional rifled barrel.

if you use fmj ammo then you will be good like wwb. there are few companies out there that have lead ammo loads, that will be detrimental to your glock, especially in 9mm. i use ultramax remanufactured ammo in my guns it is lead but not in gocks, or my kahr. the majority of lead loads come from people reloading.

if there is lead underneath the fmj then you have nothing to worry about as the lead will not get contact with the barrel that way.

maybe it was a mis-engraved slide? As in the Glock factory messed it up then sold the guns out as seconds?

Probably a police department; maybe it was a contract overrun or replacement pistol that never got issued. At any rate, you've got a great gun there. Enjoy.
 
I seem to remember a post on Glocktalk about a run of Glocks for a department that had the wrong initials on the slide and were subsequently released to a distributer for public sale.

is copper plated ammo ok in glocks? like "barrys plated"
when you reload you use the lead load data

You can shoot lead, just clean it afterwards or chamber pressures may start to climb as lead builds up.
I prefer FMJ in Glocks though, I don't think the price difference is huge for 9mm bullets if you are rolling your own is it? I'm using 115gr remington JHP for 9mm, and lead for .45.
 
The whole problem isn't due to the poly rifling leading. They work perfectly fine with hard cast bullets.

The problem is lead shavings & bullet lube building up at the headspace shoulder in the chamber.

As it gets progressively worse, it can cause a Glock to fire out of battery far enough to KaBoom.

I think Glock has done a better job recently of getting the disconnectors working right.

My old 23 can fire with the slide open almost 1/8" inch.

FMJ, FMP, FMC are all fine for your G19, as are +P ammos.

Glock recommends that you do not fire naked lead ammo through your OEM barrel. So don't. :scrutiny:

The polygonal rifling creates a tighter gas seal with the projectile, resulting in a bit more velocity. The downside is that naked lead ammo fouls the barrel rifling quickly. If you're not reloading, it shouldn't be an issue at all. If you want to reload, pick up an aftermarket barrel.

Grab some extra mags, including a 33-rounder! ;)

I didn't see where it was mentioned, but if this was a second then the MPB doesn't have to stand for anything......maybe it was supposed to be BPM.
